What are your favorite jazz albums from the last five years or so? I have not been keeping up with the current scene much and I know that some of you guys are deep in it. Let the lists begin! _________________ Jon Barnes

Great topic...
Nicholas Payton - Into the Blue*
Ingrid Jensen - At Sea
Jason Palmer - Songbook
Jim Rotondi - Four of a Kind
Roy Hargrove - Earfood
Terence Blanchard - Bounce (just outside the 5 year mark but close enough... I'd slip Choices in as a sub)

Everyone-thanks for your great replies so far. It is really interesting to see what people are listening to. You all have definitely given me some ideas as to what album I should get next!
Someone mentioned Simone-it's funny... I played with her small band last summer in Telluride. Since then she's pared the group down to an even smaller unit because of the economy. I was blessed to be able to play with her-she was a captivating performer in every way! _________________ Jon Barnes

Resonance- Joey Pero
Beyond the Wall- Kenny Garrett (I know, someone else mentioned it but hey... it is a great album)
Joyosa- Markus Stockhausen et al (whew... just in at the buzzer on that one!)
Mozart's Blue Dreams- Joe Burgstaller et al
Zabava- Charles Lazarus
Ok... some are a bit of a stretch, but hey... that's what musicians do, eh?
** hah... just noticed someone else had Resonance, too! |
