I was watching Celtic Women on PBS. They showed a brief close-up of a trumpet player. He had a silver horn, but the receiver section of the leadpipe looked black, or had some sort of black covering on it.
Any ideas? _________________ beatup Selmer Bundy

I saw that also, I think it was a B.E.R.P. |

Saw a rerun of the tremendously boring Celtic Woman, it was definitely a
B.E.R.P.. that the guy had on his leadpipe.

tried to watch/listen, but the camera angles and zooms got me dizzy, sorta like with vids from Yanni or Sara McClaughlan. yes, I have friends who reel that stuff, wide-screen. They haven't discovered Kenny G, and I'm not going to blow the dust off their lenses. Burp. _________________ kochaavim, csillaagkep, αστερρισμός, konnstelacji, connstellation... ...a.k.a. the 28A!

There are worse examples of musical entertainment than Celtic Woman. The singers are all classically trained vocalists - and their vibrato doesn't hurt my ears.
It' isn't Mahler 5 or anything, but it's certainly better than American Idol, Britney, or whatever.
I noticed the Berp on the trumpet as well. _________________ LA Benge 3X Bb Trumpet

I've never tried a B.E.R.P. but there must be something to it. I HATE attaching anything unnecesisary to my horn yet I've met a healthy number of players who seem to have them permantly attached to their receivers. They aparently think it provides enough benefit to warrant bolting it on. _________________ "I'm an engineer, which means I think I know a whole bunch of stuff I really don't."

Shucks.
I saw the thread title and thought someone wanted to start a whole new thread admiring my Onyx cornet.
Feel free to tack in that direction though! _________________ "Stomvi" PhrankenPhlugel w/ Blessing copper bell

I'm with you. I've never bolted anything onto my trumpet. Well, I guess in High School, I clipped a lyre on for Pep Band. I'm never going that route again.

I'd be up for admiring your Onyx cornet. It's not like we're solving worldwide issues with this thread. What kind is it? Feel free to post cool photos. _________________ LA Benge 3X Bb Trumpet

Back in high school I got busted and sent to the principle's office for subordination by refusing to bolt a lyre onto my shiny new Holton ST302 for marching band. Besides, I had the music memorized. That band director had issues. _________________ "I'm an engineer, which means I think I know a whole bunch of stuff I really don't."

.....I guess I live in the BERP-free zone....never seen one......
Are the players you have seen with them good players? Or more like regular Joes' grasping for an advantage? Do any of the fine players on TH without promotional connections use them?
I'm trying to stay open-minded for an old guy...... _________________ Larry Pfeifer |

It is a great crutch for a nervous, ill-prepared (or less-talented) college music student to use backstage as they work on ramping up their lack of confidence as to fall apart during their imminent concert of doom.
Plus, I hate it when people buzz their atomized spit through a tube attached to their mouthpiece.

I have one that was given to me. I tried it for a bit but I hardly ever buzz a mouthpiece by itself anyways and it feels different to play with that thing bolted on. |
