I have played on the Skyrocket. Very small diameter V cup...actually very similar to the FBL mouthpieces that Maynard Ferguson played in the late 1960's, except it has a bit more "bite" where the rim and cup meld. Very comfortable and easy to play if you can handle the small diameter.

I currently play on a groovin high 4x which is the newest groovin high. I love it. you get a fat sound with it from top to bottom.

I agree with leadtrpt's description about the Skyrocket.

If you do an overlay of the Greg Black NY4 and the Groovin High 2 on the Kanstul comparator, you will see that they are pretty much identical. The NY4 is a fantastic piece. Last week I was out at Greg Black's and he's making me a custom version of the NY4 with the same diameter as a Candoli E16 (and his John Blount Personal model) and were using a 28 throat instead of a 26. I always wanted the NY4 in a smaller diameter...I originally wanted the Blount but I just dug the sound of the NY4 so much...So powerful and full...and I can do things on that Maynard design that I can't do on other pieces. I spent quite awhile learning to play the MF style rim too. All the best, Lex.

I've been really curious about the Skyrocket since it came out, but I can't find one to try!

Drew,

GR mouthpieces has the Skyrocket specs in their database (they are the company that manufactured them). Give Brian Scriver a call at (705) 715-7060. I'm sure he'll be happy to help you out
