I have a friend in Philadelphia, PA who wants to get this horns (cornet & trumpet) refinished. Can you provide me with recommendations to pass onto him? (BTW, he's a better player than I am!) They don't have to be local. All recommendations are appreciated.

Alphabetically-

James Becker @ Osmun Music

Josh Landress @ Sam Ash (48th Street in Manhattan)

Steve Winans @ Dr. Valve

I've been happy with the work of all three.

Have your friend just "Stay Local".

Contact "Music & Arts" (they're all over; but, check the yellow-pages for nearby Jersey).

Ask to be in-touch with Lenny Zapf. He's working out of M & A's repair facility and w'hse somewhere North of Philly. Might be near Langhorne or Bensalem. I don't think as far North as Jenkintown, though.

Lenny is superb. Never hear much about him here. He's as good as any of the others that were mentioned. Prices are amazingly real. A welcome change.

If the horns are in lacquer, Charlie Melk. Some of the other names send their work to him for lacquered horns. Only problem is the wait is long.
