Just picked up a couple of donated horns. The first is an "American Triumph Manufactured by Harry Pedler & Sons. I will have to spend some more time cleaning it out. The most amazing thing was that the pistons have such a long shank which requires about a quarter inch of cork; they are bottom springed, and the third slide is on the right side. I believed that this was manufactured in the 20's, but not sure (serial # 83601). I have to expand the top of the valve casings as they may have developed burrs and I cannot replace the pistons. I will also have to remove several dents, but that won't be a problem.
The other horn is a Boosey & Hawkes "Oxford", which I believe is an intermediate horn, and outside of it being without lacquer and a few dents will clean up nicely. The amazing part of this horn is the heft. It feels like they used a heavier brass sheet when making this horn.
Anyone familiar with these horns or manufacturers?
Thank you in advance for any info, and I look forward to playing these horns and giving a review. I will post befor and after shots later. _________________ Flip Oakes Wild Thing
