The question is- Does it look better than a $6000 stack of money? If the answer is yes, than it's settled- buy one!

The answer was settled for me before I played it. So... my trumpet collection is the smallest around, but it is a nice one (for me). So, I have trumpets and Scuba taking up most of my money, what I don't give to my wife (reward in supporting my trumpet habit) I spend on coffee.

I don't see any way to adjust the slides for 13 and 123 valve combinations. Is there something I am missing? Do you just have use alternate fingerings?

You cannot adjust them on the fy, you just pull the 1dt, 3rd, or 4th slide out accordingly.

Can you live without being able to adjust on the fly? I use the third slide adjustment on my Selmer fairly often (I realize that this horn is no Selmer) ... and people pay extra to get the BG conversion for their Schilke piccs so they can adjust both the 1st and 3rd valve slides.

That horn is elegantly designed - it is a work of engineering art! A museum piece!

The Piccolo Trumpet is made by Bernhard Zirnbauer. More pictures and a full report to come, but for now... something to drool over.

Beautiful horn! I can't help but admire almost every trumpet design I see. Someone is obviously a gifted perfectionist

Absolutely the coolest picc I've ever seen! Huge Kudos on the design aesthetics. Can you post a clip of the sound (sorry if you posted one and I missed it - I was visually overwhelmed

Up until now I would have said that the Martin Schmidt picc was the most beautiful picc that I had ever seen but your horn tops it I think

cjl:

You don't need to "adjust on the fly" if you have a 4th valve...

If you are referring to the Martin Schmidt horns, you can find him here -

I have a 4-valve Miraphone flugel without any trigger that I have to use the alternate fingerings with. Not the easiest thing to do; guess I need more practice.

Ubungstickle: There is a village outside Munich where Bernhard Zirnbauer has his shop, go and speak with him and that is where one can get one of these amazing horns. Or, one could contact me, and I can arrange it (though if your in Germany, you owe it to yourself to go visit him, besides you can choose from many bell config's and leadpipes, and "A/G, A, or A/B trumpets).

He is a valve maker. He does not have a website, and I believe these pictures that I have put up, are the only ones on the web. I know he has made other trumpets, and other instruments, but I was not privy to those. I learned a lot more about making my own stuff since I was there. And I hope to keep in contact for a long time, as I know more things are going to come out of his shop.

By the way, I have had a total of three piccolos in my lifetime. I would have saved a lot of money if this was the only piccolo I ever bought.

I will put up more, and a recording when a friend gets back from Jakarta and can help me.

Does Bernhard Zirnbauer have a website at all? Google isn't forthcoming at all. I'd love to see more of his designs.
