In lesson 1 the player is instructed to use a breath attack and I understand why, my questions is, should the player be using a breath attack for the 2nds, 3rds, Harmonics, etc?

Carmine did these exercises different ways with different people. In general, I use the breath attack for any but the exercises that are clearly focused on articulation.

Try it both ways.
