Comparing 4 trumpets: Buescher 400, Buescher Aristocrat 205, Getzen 90PB Power Bore and Romeo Adaci Referenz. These are 4 trumpets I own ... this video was created to help me compare their sound side-by-side.

I never thought the 205 was 'that dark' but it sounds dark here ... which is why I shot this video. It is simply too hard to truly compare 'sound' when behind the mouthpiece.

Just thought I'd share 'just for fun'...

I'd be interested in what you think of the horns playing soft and quiet. At least the Buescher horns, that's where their character really changes.

I voted for the Getzen PB.
It just sounded full and rich - with a little more clarity than the others.
Second best was the 400.

Just my opinion mind you.

The opening song that I played, 'have you met miss jones', was played fairly 'soft' = down and easy ... and the Buescher's play so super easy on that style of playing. They do open up when pushed, but as a large-bore horn player, I am way more comfy with the Getzen Power Bore (.468) or Romeo Adaci (.465) that with either of the Bueschers when trying to 'light 'em up', which I did not do in this video. To your question, the 400 and 205 speak easily with little air, so soft and sweet is a pleasant place on either of those axes.

Wow, what a difference equipment makes. At work, I listened on my Dell laptop with Sennheiser HD 558 headphones and I didn't hear a whole lot of difference between the horns.

However... at home with my unibody MacBook Pro and Sennheiser HD 598 headphones, I heard a clear difference between all four.

For darkest to lightest, I heard:

Romeo Adaci
Buescher 205 "Aristocrat"
Buescher 225 "The 400"
Getzen 90PB

The Getzen sounded the Bach-iest of your horns, so it's no surprise to me that it's leading in the voting.

Perhaps sometime when I have the opportunity and a quiet room, I'll try some recording.

My Getzen is displeased with that statement!

I do agree with your darkest to brightest list and yes, sound equipment really helps. The MacBook Pro speakers seem good until you plug in some good headphones. I use KRKs and I can hear all the background noise, the flip cams poor quality recording and a much bigger difference in the sound of each horn.
