I have made arrangements with J R WILLIAMS to distribute his fantastic mute holder through my brass music publishing website. The short address is MUTE-HOLDER.NET or http://www.watertonbrassmusic.com/muteholder.shtml. Pictures available!

I hope you will take a look (at the brass music too).

That's a great mute holder, guys! I wouldn't hesitate to get one of these except for the fact that I have one already. Watertonbrassmusic is doing the trumpet community a great service by making these available again.

Don't see much difference between such and a Jo-Ral except a 4th holder, but I've concern about this ring type mute holder re cork strikes as others mention. I do have 2 Jo-Rals.

At home I use a wooden angled desk top book rack as can be folded flat in seconds. Sitting in a chair with said rack on the floor beside me, my mutes would be accessible as fast as any other I've seen and no worry about cork strikes. Still, I DO NOT prefer to play any mute unless the music requires such or I must play silently (YSBS not racked). This rack appears home made, yet of high quality, but I bought it many years ago at the college bookstore, but then for text books.

Here's another alternative that is small and affordable.

The Horntrader version is very nice, but it has a big 'jumper cable' clamp that has its limitations. If you have to clamp it onto the inner part of the stand (say, if you're up on a riser and the stand is on the floor, so you have to extend the stand to get it up high), then you have to stick little segments of rubber hose over the clamp to make it grab onto the stand.

Last night I brought both the Floor-No-More and Indiana Music/Horntrader rack to a show. I used the FNM myself, and offered the other to someone else for the night. We were on a riser with the Manhasset stands on the floor extended pretty high, and so we had to clamp onto the inner silver part of the stand. The Indiana Music one didn't work, even with the plastic thing over the grippy part of the clamp. The rack kept flopping down at a 45° angle and was worthless. It wouldn't support the weight of the mutes. He gave it back to me and went without.

I came home and tried it on my own Manhasset and it seemed to work, but on the actual gig it choked.

I'm so glad to hear that someone else equally loves this thing. Can I quote you on my website, PhxHorn?!

Thanks, Kevin

I started to order , but I'm a little confused at the price. The website says $49 plus $9 shipping, but Paypal, Amazon, and Google all add tax and an additional shipping charge to this, so it ends up at $65 instead of the $58. Is that right, or is something getting counted twice?

I'm sorry for the confusion. You should select the free shipping option (there are about six options) from the drop-down menu when checking out (since the shipping is included with the mute holder price). The total price is $58. I will try to make that clearer on the website!

E-mail me if you need additional help: watertonbrassmusic@gmail.com

Thanks,

Kevin Paul
