While I agree that pedals are not often needed in full orchestral performance, I feel they are often significant in solo / lead trumpet performance and essential in practice on the trumpet / cornet.
IMO the same applys to notes in the extended high range.
In practice on my Bb trumpet/cornet, I can readily play my chromatic scales from C below the treble staff to C above, but would find such easier to go higher on my Bb piccolo trumpet and lower on my euphonium. Were I to change mpc from 6 1/2 AL to 12 C on my euphonium I have been able to go lower into much of the tuba range, and that is really pedaling. |

| For those who do use pedals, do you find them easier to play on some horns than others? I've just started playing them, and seem to notice a difference from one horn to another. |

Yes, there is a difference. I believe that the biggest factor is the size of the bell taper. The faster the taper, the easier it is to play pedals and the better they sound.
