For the past few years, about 2-3 times a year, my lips get VERY chapped. Chapped to the point of dead skin flaking off, feeling like leather, and cracking wheh stretched. It makes trumpet very difficult. I have used Chopsaver and it helped but did not cure. Im on Burt Bee's Wax now, but same deal. Has anyone had this issue and if so had any success with a cure?
Maybe Im just getting old and dry..................

You know, diet has a great deal to do with the condition of the body. You are constantly manufacturing new cell to replace old or damaged cells. If you use substandard building materials, you will have a substandard structure. I'm sure many will chime in and say stay hydrated, but you should get most of your water from food. The fact that people have to stay hydrated is a symptom, not a root cause.
To protect my lips from outside pollutants, I use Dr. Bronner's lip balm. _________________ Crazy Nate aka Jive-a-licious

hydration...
I live in Arizona, where we have seasonal swings between high humidity and also bone-dry humidity.
Ironically the WINTER is the driest time.. with humidities as low as 2-3%. We set a record low humidity last winter. In the summers we get afternoon storms that raise the humidity.
My point is, in a period of very low humidity water gets sucked from everything... you will lose moisture faster (dry sinuses, chapped lips, etc.).
You have to make an effort to keep hydrated then the air is drier.
Also, lip balms are often NOT really moisturizers and can contain drying ingredients such as menthol, phenol, camphor, etc... |

If this is a new problem then I would stongly advise consulting a doctor to see if he can isolate an underlying cause. Balms may offer some relief but can't be expected to cure something like this.
If the you can't get help from a doctor then by all means stay hydrated, explore different lip treatments (I like DCT by Blistex), dietary changes, possibly consider a different mouthpiece rim plating/material. _________________ "I'm an engineer, which means I think I know a whole bunch of stuff I really don't."

i have had similar issues, but since i started using JACK BLACK LIP BALM i have not had chapped lips, gotten a cold sore, or had any other lip issue, for over two years, i use the natural mint version, i've tried the other flavors, but they just don't seem to work as well, i run almost everyday, i live in the northeast and have been exposed to brutal cold and blistering heat, i've had no issues with the lips, it worked great and is rated spf 25. i apply it whenever my lips feel dry, it goes on a little greasy but i just work it in with my finger tip and i'm done, well anyway it works for me. and no, i don't work for jack black products. lolol
hope this helps
regards

Vitamin E caplets. Ingest one, and cut the end open of another, squeezing contents directly onto lips. When I get lazy about doing it, that's when I get chapped lips and cold sores. _________________ Adams A4 Shepherds Crook Bb
