Hey THers,
I'm working on the Halsey Stevens for a studio recital coming up and I do not currently have the piano part for it. This wouldn't be a problem except my teacher's copy is currently being "borrowed indefinitely" and the music library doesn't have a copy either. Would anyone be so kind as to send me a pdf of the piano part?
Thanks! _________________ Bach 180ML 37

I definitely plan on buying it, but being a college student with limited (make that 0) funds and a fairly close deadline for when I need the music, I was just hoping to get the part so I can get it to a pianist as quickly as possible. _________________ Bach 180ML 37

So you are playing on a illegal copy of the trumpet part, and you are asking us to help you finish stealing the rest of the piece?
Suck it up and buy it, the whole thing is less than the price of a mouthpiece. It isn't like sheet music is all that expensive anyway. By the way, I am sure your piano player would appreciate getting the music for something like this well before the deadline.
By the way, playing the ' I am poor' card is really just saying you didn't plan ahead. It isn't like this is a piece you whip out with a few weeks work. I took 2 semesters to prep the whole thing for my senior recital in college, and the fastest I ever saw anyone else work it up the first time would probably still be a full semester. Think ahead, any decent music school would probably have this in their library and you can get it through inter library loan if yours doesn't have it and if you are too "poor". |

FWIW, no one is being mean or unreasonable. It's inappropriate to ask for any part of a copyright protected work, especially on the open web. Sometimes those of us in school forget this or sort of sweep it under the carpet...
JRoyal's point about interlibrary loan should be seriously considered! It is THE answer for all poor students. Most accredited schools in the US are part of the ILL system and will be able to borrow nearly any work for you to use. Further, most school's librarians will happily purchase a relatively inexpensive work, such as the Stevens Sonata.
Another thing to consider - how much do you spend on text books for your academic classes every semester? Now, how much have you spent on music this semester? The Stevens is a VERY cheap text!
From one student to another...
