Just to be sure... the cornet is being played by the Principal Trumpet of the Bangkok Thailand Orchestra. I am the fat guy in the green shirt. I am more of a... Hack is the word I am looking for. Anyway, I hope you liked the sounds on the video just the same. Keep an eye out.. there will be more.

Neat cornet! Looks a lot like the American rotary valve cornets from the mid-19th century. Compare it to mine - very similar layout except mine is side action instead of top action.

Ok,
As Dale mentioned: "Looks a lot like the American rotary valve cornets from the mid-19th century." Because it was my very few emails with Dale, and his website.... and the American rotary Cornets of that age that inspired me. Besides, there are only a few ways to wrap a rotary cornet, and this seems to be one of the most beautiful to me.

That is where it stops however. I use modern valves made in Germany, my bell and leadpipe dimensions are modern, and a bit different. As well as my bore size.... all of which I would like to not talk about at this point, as the horn is dong very very well, even on C cup mouthpieces... on a proper cornet mouthpiece is almost as dark as a flugel, but with better projection. It is very conical, but the notes sit well where they belong, except for 1&3 and 1,2&3 so a trigger will go in soon.

So... thanks Dale. If I sell enough of these I still want your Eb so I can study the thing... and make one. I love the Eb cornets.

Sorry about all of the pictures... but I hoped to give everyone what they wanted. Thank so much for the positive feedback. The cornet has been well received by all that have tried it. There is also a school looking to have a whole section made for their brass band. I would really like to see that happen someday. Oh, I should also say... it has minibal linkages. I like them very much, but Bernhard Zirnbauer showed me a string system that would make the valves even faster. Coming soon I hope will be a version of this cornet with his valves.

Sorry, this is my last post until someone else posts something:

I am looking for books, photos, literature, something, anything on the old boston makers, cornets, designs, math... whatever. I think they are beautiful horns, and I want to make more. I also, as much as I like doing my own thing, want to at least know what they did. I have played Kanstuls, Benges, Bachs, Schagerls, Lawlers, etc... and I know what I like in them, and have managed to put that into my own instruments. Also reading about the trumpet makers from Germany... but I would like more information. There is no more valuable information than History itself, unless it is forgotten history.

That's a very cool thing you're doing! I'm sure your new cornet plays better than my 140+ year-old one...

Speaking of fast rotary valves, mine has "Allen" valves, which were elongated, small diameter rotors with oval ports. These were built to lessen the travel needed to operate the valve, which increased the speed. The tubing leading to and from the valves changed from cylindrical to oval right before it entered the valve body. Very fast.

That sounds almost exactly what my friend Bernhard did, only there was something one could do to adjust the cam there for making it faster or slower. Seemed a bit complicated for most trumpet players, but I hope to talk him into at least one more set for me. Someday.

Another thought... I have: "Metallblas Instrumente" by Barnhart, Herzberg, and Schramm... but are there any other publications like this, or workbooks (having standard designs, leadpipe to bell equations etc...) This book, and some very special friends have been a huge help, but there has to be more. I am sure of it, actually... because I have seen glimpses of 3 ring binders of designs, plans, build sheets etc..
