This info from the insider with the "Once More With Feeling" Doc Severinsen
Big Band tour. The band played the Holland Center in Omaha, twice the size of Orchestra Hall in Minneapolis. The insider said at rehearsal he hoped they could have a large turnout as the hall is huge. The hall was SOLD OUT and the crowd was screaming after every solo and number. Insider said Doc was incredible playing a three octave arpeggio that ended in a double high C in one of his solos. The trumpet section was in awe. To quote insider Doc had the band do an encore ending of FLYING HOME as he
thought it was just great. Backstage he called the guys together and said in his vernacular "You know I don't bull****. I've played with the best for years and this is the best band I have ever fronted!" By the way, the sensational vocalist is Miss Vanessa Thomas, a true star. |

Chip McNeill and Carlos Vega are in the sax section, they're top flight. I understand the trumpet section are Brad Shermock, Mark Bobnick, Adam Rossmiller, and Zack Lozier (maybe associated w Priince in the past?). _________________ Jeff Helgesen

Shermock, Bobnick and Rossmiller are top first call big band trumpeters in the upper Midwest area. Lozier is associated with smaller group venues. Mark Bobnick is a former lead trumpet with the U.S. Army's JAZZ KNIGHTS Jazz Ensemble at West Point, lead trumpet with the Artie Shaw and Gene Krupa ghost bands and trumpet with the popular POWER OF TEN Blues-Funk band and lead trumpet with Minnesota's CEDAR AVENUE BIG BAND. |

I played with Brad Shermock when he was a young buck in the 4:00 and 3:00 lab bands at UNT. He posted a picture of the lead part to 12 O'Clock Jump on his facebook page, complete with scribbles from John Audino. Needless to say he's pretty excited about the gig. _________________ Bryan Fields

Doc played Cheyenne last evening and blew the walls down.
Of course Doc still has the magic and mojo, despite playing at nearly 7000 feet....Ernie Watts was incredible, and Doc had a featured singer who brought the house down.
One of the best drummers I have ever had the pleasure of seeing live. The rest of the band played to perfection....
Hope all of you who love Doc can get out to see this tour!
All the best,

I was fortunate enough to see him in Dallas last night. It was extremely enjoyable, I think just about every member of the band was given an individual solo opportunity at some point, and they were all terrific.
Ernie Watts was amazing, as were they all really. Doc was having a great time, the audience loved it, he had them eating out of the palm of his hand within seconds of walking out onto the stage.
It was about 2 hours of music, with a 20 minute break in the middle.
Probably the most interesting thing about the audience, was a large percentage of them were very young kids, obviously high school or younger trumpet players, many of whom would have never had the chance to see him on his TV days, having been born after the Carson era ended.
If you have a chance to see this in your area, you really owe it to yourself to go.

Sure wish he'd wander toward northern Indiana before ending his tour.
