No kidding!!!

Guess we have to chalk it up to the fact that the entertainment / music industry seems to tailor their appeal to the lowest common denominator. If it sells, it does not seem to matter whether it has any substance or quality. If you want a real chuckle, go look at the "musicians" section of Craigslist, where you see ads for "screamers" and guys who run frickin' turntables. TURNTABLES!! Musicians???

Funny you should mention. Just a little while ago I noticed a large ad in a slick, reputable local magazine (the year's music edition) advertising a change in venue to "Live Music" at one of the local elite watering spots.

In large captions, the ad had "Live" with a photo showing a guy sitting at a table with a box of LPs at his right elbow and a turntable at his left. Oy! =:O

I have a friend who owned a bar years ago, and ran a similar ad in a local paper advertising "live music." What he got from that was a visit from the local ASCAP field rep, followed by the required purchase of an ASCAP license.

I had to laugh when I read your posts about classifying platter spinners as providers of 'live music'. But when it comes to spinning records I feel the same way about the 'scratchers' and platter spinners that populate RAP and HipHop. Calling them musicians is like comparing a collage 'artist' to Rembrandt or a scrap booker to an Author. Taking snippets of other's performances and mixing it to a beat does not make you a creative artist or musician. A clever technician maybe, but not a musician. IMHO

I completely agree, although a college "artist" is much more of an actual artist. They do original works.

DJs and other "mixers" to musicians like art painters are to house painters, in my book. Well, less useful, but similar in comparison to their counterpart.
