This isn't strictly trumpet-related (my appologies), but rather more generally beginning band-related.

Have any of you (especially band teachers) used the Division of Beat books (Harry Haines, Tom Rhodes)? They're based on the breath impulse concept, which is related to internalizing the subdivision of beats with one's breath.

The high school band teacher in my district mentioned that he used this book years ago and had good results. Any one else have any experience with this book, or with using the breath impulse concept?

Thanks for your input!

Ben

Never heard of it until my son signed up for band this year (old thread. . . but just in case anyone ever decides to look at this one again). However, what I discovered while trying to find a copy of the 1a book for trumpet players is that the publisher of this series - Southern Music - has gone out of business. Sort of. They still sell music online, but they closed their only store in Austin, TX and are apparently seeking a buyer for their catalog. From what I read, they are no longer printing any music so whatever happens to be available through retailers is it for now. I'm a bit surprised our school's band program is still planning to use an out-of-print series. . .
