Where is the best place to get a GR Mouthpiece gold plated? Should I not do it at all? I'm very used to gold plating on my chops, my skin is very sensitive, and gold plating helps. |

Have GR do it. Otherwise, it will change the mouthpiece more than you want. _________________ Bach trumpet artist-clinician

Or Charlie Melk. A better man refinishing mouthpieces you'll never see.

This may not apply to you, but after many years of using gold plated mpces., I somewhat accidentally discovered that I prefer silver, after buying a GR Carl Fischer JazzRockstar; it feels a bit more "secure" on my chops.

I had a GR 3HC gold plated and it plays slightly differently than it did before I had it gold plated, but still a very good mouthpiece. I had it done by a very reputable person who did a very good job. No complaints about that but I still won't mention names, but GR advises that if you want a gold plated GR mouthpiece, order it from GR gold plated and don't gold plate the thing after market. I thought it was a bunch of huey (not sure how to spell that) but now I'll say there might be some truth to that. GR mouthpieces are VERY precise. |

The silver plate we use is amazing and many players who played gold from other manufacturers are now very happy with the GR silver.
Our plater does a gorgeous job on the gold as well. Quite a number of our top players use GR gold such as Wayne Bergeron, Eric Miyashiro, and Carl Fischer, just to name a few off the top of my head.
If you are going to get a silver GR Mouthpiece plated gold, only send it to Charlie Melk. The prep work is very important and we only trust Charlie to do it properly. He will prep and then send it to the player we use in order for the tolerances to be correct.
I hope that helps.
