| Can anyone recommend a trumpet teacher in ocean county NJ? I'm retired now and would like to find an all around teacher that includes improvization lessons. Just want to play well enough to join some community groups. Thank you: |

I live in Brooklyn and play and teach around NYC, but do some teaching by skype. I studied with laurie Frink for 3 years, one of the best trumpet teachers in the world, so I can work on trumpet stuff with you and have played jazz with people like Joe Lovano, John Scofield, Chris Potter etc, so obviously I am very comfortable teaching improvisation. BA in Music from Muhlenberg College, MA in Jazz Performance and Composition from NYU. Send me an email if you're interested and we can talk specific goals: JonCrowleyMusic@gmail.com
PS: If you want, you can see me play http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1voYMuQ1Z9g&feature=relmfu
OR I have a bunch of live shows up on my bandcamp site:
I'm guessing you probably want to learn standards, so here's a show doing that stuff from a while back: http://joncrowleymusic.bandcamp.com/album/live-chris-jazz-cafe-april-2011
Whatever you decide, best of luck! _________________ http://www.JonCrowleyMusic.com |

| Thanks Jon, but I was thinking more one on one in person. I'm 66 years old and my computer knowledge is limited. Not looking to become a lead trumpet player at my age, but would like to hold my own on a few licks now and then. Thanks: |

go into the nearest local college with a trumpet music program and talk to the teachers there, they'll tell you who's in your area. the high school people might know as well if you don't have a college.
if you know enough computer to post here you know enough computer to get on skype and take lessons from anyone, anywhere. you have to make small advancements in your computer ability, and you'll have to do it sooner or later anyway. it's real idiot stuff too one thing after another.. chuck |

George Rabbai teaches at Rowan, which I'm guessing is probably about an hour away from you. http://www.rowan.edu/music/assets/facultyinfo.cfm?id=94 If you're retired, and only took a lesson about once every couple weeks or so, that shouldn't be too hard to handle, particularly if you want someone top notch and in person.
another possibility would be to check out if any any of the casinos has a house band in one of their lounges that includes a trumpet player. I know years ago that wasn't uncommon. don't know if it's still the case. _________________ 1945 Martin Committee
