I purchased my Eterna pic in 1978, so it came with the standard Getzen trumpet shank leadpipes, and I've been using a stock Schilke 11A for all these years. A few years back I obtained a Blackburn P1C leadpipe in A, and it indeed plays better than to Getzen pipe, still with the 11A. For comparison's sake, I play a 70's Bach 3C with a 24 throat on my regular Bb trumpet, and a stock, late 40's Bach New York 3C on my C trumpet. One of these days I'll have to try a Blackburn Bb pipe for my pic...

TrumpetMD/Mike: thank you for the heads-up about where to inquire about ordering Getzen trumpet-shank pipes.
Chris: what convinced you to stick with the stock Schilke 11A, with your Eterna? Is that what your picc came with?? Mine, as I've noted in a previous post, came with a Bach 7C, which while I dont' find it awful for most applications, I do think it's holding me back a little. Hmmm...
I agree with the people asserting that Blackburn is the way to go, in terms of aftermarket leadpipes. (And, yes, I've also heard that Osmun, Najoom, etc. carry similar products.) However, at this time, I really don't have the $$$$ to spend of Blackburn pipes. Down the road, maybe. Right now, nope.
Please, do keep the mouthpiece and/or leadpipe suggestions coming. All responses are greatly appreciated! _________________ trumpetp1 |

Mine has stock trumpet pipes, I use the stock Bb and a Blackburn A. Stork 5P for most, Curry 7Z for high stuff.
Picked it up a few years ago, junior year of college, it's served me well. _________________ Gen IIRL

It came with a Getzen 10 1/2C, which, for me, did not work at all! I went through a couple dozen different mp's at the time with my teacher (he was still trying to find the best pic setup for himself at the time) and found the 11A to be the best. I've been playing the 11A in this horn for almost 35 years now, and it never ceases to amaze me, even when I haven't touched the horn for a while, how natural the 11A feels and works every time.
I do not like the laser beam brightness of many pics I've heard, and even though the 11A is a shallow cup, my sound on the Getzen has a fuller, more rounded sound, exactly what I want. Now, if you ask me about a Schilke 11AX, I've never tried one, but I've often wondered what the effect of the different 'X' backbore would be...(I don't want to start a new safari at this point!) |

I emailed Getzen, directly, yesterday afternoon. I received a reply back this morning. Yes, Getzen does make trumpet-shank leadpipes for their 940 piccs. But, you have to order them through Allied Supply, which doesn't sell to the general public - apparently. So, you have to find a music store (etc.) that has an account with Allied and order from them [as TrumpetMD previously noted].
Bravo to Getzen for the quick response, though!
Now, to order the pipes (if the price is reasonable for me, at this time) and then narrow down my mouthpiece search....again, this time with trumpet mouthpieces. Weeee!! _________________ trumpetp1 |

Update 1: I'm still on the hunt for mouthpieces, and would still value any and all suggestions...particularly those geared specifically towards Getzen 940 piccs.
Update 2: I've pretty much exhausted my local sources in my search for an Allied Supply account (so I can order Getzen trumpet-shank pipes), so I suppose I'll expand my range to include those suggestions made by TrumpetMD. _________________ trumpetp1 |

Update: well, I went with TrumpetMD/Mike's recommendation to purchase Getzen trumpet-shank leadpipes, to augment my search for a suitable mouthpiece for my little horn. I picked my new leadpipes up last night and am quite impressed - already - with the Bb pipe and a Bach 7EW (what I had on hand). My sound seems much less forced in the higher range and just seems to float out of the horn. I'm really liking the combination, thus far. We'll see.
Thank you to all who took the time to make recommendations. They were greatly appreciated! _________________ trumpetp1 |

Thanks for the update! I'm glad the new leadpipe is working out.
