Lou,
I found this out when I studied Mandarin Chinese. My music experience helped me to pick up the language at a faster level than most westerners, since Chinese is a tonal language. The Chinese use the same sounds for many different words by changing the intonation, thus us musicians have a leg up if we take up the language. Also, Music and Mandarin use both hemispheres of the brain where western languages usually use just one.
