Just happened to notice that my bottle of "Blue Juice" is green by incandescent light at night, and almost blue by day light.
QUESTION: What's the consensus? Actually I think that since the company calls it "blue", they should make it positively blue !!! So that it appears blue under any Kelvin temperature. |

The yellow component of the light combines with the blue in the "juice" to make green...
I'd say this is a Lounge topic, though. _________________ Olde Towne Brass

Ya, I know that! Just suggesting that the Co. add a tad more blue, so that it never looks green. "Green Juice" anyone......
Yes! I agree, Lounge topic. You know, I've never scrolled down that far before. How do you change it from horns to lounge? |

It says "juice". Shouldn't they make it more tasty? _________________ Flip Oakes Wild Thing Bb Trumpet

I don't know about the rest of you guys, but IMO the job of valve oil is to lubricate my valves. I don't want dyes, contaminates, or other junk in there for the sole purpose of turning the oil a different color, I just want it to do it's job... no matter what color it is. _________________ Kevin Peterson

I tend to agree. I happen to have had a bad experience with Blue Juice, but I also realize that there are a lot of people who use and like it. It did NOT work for me (it really worsened the valve action on a relatively new, clean Strad), but maybe my body chemistry and Blue Juice just do not mix.

I found Blue Juice to work great...lightning fast valves when used about every day. It's the every day part I didn't like. It seems to evaporate very quickly, so the fast valve action didn't last. I now use Alisyn, a synthetic, that goes weeks between oilings. It isn't quite as fast as Blue Juice, but it's fast enough. _________________ Olde Towne Brass

| I clean A LOT of trumpets...chem cleaning is easily the most common thing I do in my repair shop. Generally, I like to use whatever oil is in the case when I re-assemble the horn. But sometimes there is no oil in the case. I had one of those big bottles of Blue juice and I was using that for a while, and clients were happy. But I had 3 trumpets (from 3 different owners) come back saying they didn't like the way their valves were working. Turns out the Blue stuff was mixing weird with their normal oil. I now use regular old Al cass when there is no oil in the case...I think that stuff mixes with everything, I've never had a horn come back after using al cass. Never had a client complain about the color of the oil though... |

I have been using Blue Juice for about 8 years and find it completely adequate. I recall purchasing a Getzen student horn a number of years ago to flip, so I oiled the valves with Blue Juice and they were najor sluggish. Very likely the valves had been oiled with a synthetic oil, which I understand is not compatable, in most cases, with a mineral oil. _________________ Richard

The original question, was it is blue, or is it green? And how many of us are colorblind? |

My instruments are worth too much to use Blue Juice! Worst oil on the market, as far as I am concerned.
I prefer Wll Spencer's Snake Oil, or failing that Wick Advanced Oil with PTFE. _________________ Blow in the Little End. Noise Comes Out the Big End. Simples!

| hahaha Yeah I don't let it near my personal horns. I have had it on marching horns, it works fine but not my favorite. I love BiNak Pro. It seems that you just have to find a oil that works with a certain horn. I have played couesnon flugels that had sticky valves, but Al cass or BiNak really fixed it. |
