Nobody will pay to sit through a game of cricket in Jacksonville so there is no professional cricket team. If nobody will pay to sit through a symphony concert there will be no professional orchestra.

I suppose those musicians could learn to improvise over the changes and make a living in jazz.

Major bummers for cricket and music -- probably good news for the football team.

Actually, I vacilate between being furious and depressed. Where's the answer?

Education -- otherwise interpreted as brain-washing the kids?

Government subsidies -- otherwise known as setting taste by majority vote?

And then Down Beat arrives in the mail with a list of more than 175 colleges with jazz majors. There's a solution and a half!

This one really hurts. I grew up in JAX and was around that orchestra regularly.

Great group of people, good town and a tremendous hall.

I hope this works out before its irreparable.
