What's the best trumpet-flugel combo case? I need a hard case and was thinking about the Pro-Tec case (though it has no room for accessories and mutes). Does the Bach combo case have room for mutes or is it tight like their other strad cases? I also need it to be small enough to go as a carry-on. |

Hello Tom,
I recommend the wiseman-case.
It is very protectiv, very small, and you get the mutes in it. No bucket, if you put the normal four in it, but for this there comes a special mute bag with it.
http://www.wisemancases.com
They are expencive, but great. If you need a 10% discount, I can give you my code-number for it.
Best wishes

Hey, the bach double case I'm familiar with has no room for more than trumpet, flugel and 2 'pieces. The trumpet sits vertically and the flugel lays like a standard case. |

Chase Sanborn did a review on them and reallly ikes them - the pics are of his cases and off of his equipment review web site....
click HERE to see all the equimpent reviews that Chase Sanborn has done on various equimpent and see what he thinks abou the the wiseman cases...
i am going to try and buy a wiseman case for christmas this year as a present to myself...
and for yout to lazy to navigate the wiseman site here is a pic of the double trumpet cases (incluses a wrap arond music folder - so you don't have to cary aournd music in a outside folder and mute bag too!)
he gives free overhauls for life and you get to pick the color of the interior velvet!
you need to emal or contact him before ordering- he will probably need a horn tracing on a pice of paper to insure a perfect fit.. plus if you ever need different inserts for different trumpets (like piccolo's or c horns) he will get them for you too... he will even change the outer diameter of the bag to fit your hor if you have those super long two inch valve caps!!!
what more could you reall ask for.... plus they are super light and super tough! ask liad, he has one!!!
enjoy,
-marc melton

Hello Marc,
you will have a great christmas, if you geat your case than.
I found it difficult to trace the shape of my horns with a pencil. So i photographed the horns from different sides, printed it and then copied it to the right size.
okay, the copy maschine doesn't make a real scaled copy, but it is quiet near.
Than I measured my horns and write the measurments on the big copy.
That was my idea of getting the right measurments. Perhaps it is an idea for you, if you have problems with the tracing.
if you still need a code number, you are welcome to mail me.
Best wishes for your coming case.
Henning

Howard Wiseman has already got a vast number of inserts available for these cases, if you contact him he will be able to say which inserts are probably best.
When I ordered my triple (which is the size you need if you are putting a flugel in it) it came with inserts for a small flugel and a big one, so you can choose which you need. It also comes with a knife, so you can adjust it to fit perfectly.
Drunkiq – if you want one for Christmas, I would order it soon. Howard usually has quite a waiting list. Again, if you want another discount code, please contact me. |

It looks like a very worthwhile case to own, but someone needs to explain to me why the trumpet and flugel won't make contact with each other in the closed position, because the photo indicates this will happen if it closes in the normal manner. _________________

There is a padded divider that clips in the middle of the case. The two instruments are held in place on their respective sides and the divider is between them ensuring absolutely no contact. |

Tom,
I've got the Pro-Tec Trumpet/Flugel combo case and am really happy with it. As you stated it doesn't have room for mutes but it does have a pretty good size pocket on the front for music and small accessories. Pro-Tec also offers a small mute bag (model M400). Woodwind and Basswind has it on their site for about $20.
Good Luck,
Rob |

I have a ProTec trumpet/flugel case. My only complaint is that it's a little bulky Also, the mouthpiece-inserts are hard plastic and I'm worried about them scarring my GRs over the long haul.

Thanks for the responses. I love the look of that Wiseman case and all the velvet color options are NICE. But I don't have the cash for it so I am leaning toward the Pro-Tec. |
