I went to the Yamaha site to check out their standard pieces and they are listed as discontinued. Also, went to ProWinds and all they have for Yamaha pieces are the signiture ones. _________________ Adams/ACB collaborative

They're made in Japan. We have some of the best mouthpiece makers in the world right here in America. Yamaha can't touch them. _________________ Crazy Nate - Fine Yet Mellow Fellow

They're very high-quality design and build, and they're offered at a price that makes them accessible to pretty much anyone. Also, their offerings "fill in the holes" left by other popular makers (Bach and Schilke, especially).
I love my custom pieces by Reeves, Bach, etc, but my favorite rotary trumpet mouthpiece to date is a Yamaha 16E4 and after 6-ish months on the latest generation of the Hagstrom, I'm still in love with it. In fact, I'll be ordering a couple in the near future as rim donors for some of my other mouthpieces.
I buy American if I have to choose between two equivalent products, but as we all know, no two mouthpieces are ever exactly equivalent. In the spirit of capitalism and the free market, the manufacturer with the product that most meets my needs (musical, pedagogical, and price point) will get my business. If they happen to put a TON of money back into music education, that would be even better.
BobD, I may be out of the loop, but as of a couple months ago I had not heard any plans from Yamaha to discontinue their line. In fact, when asking about a rare-ish mouthpiece for a student, I was told by a Yamaha rep that "we only have one left in the warehouse, but we'll get more in in a month or two, so don't worry about it." I'd bet that the current web page situation is indicative of a web site update that hasn't gone off quite right. When in doubt, call Yamaha! _________________ RJM

Bob, seems that mouthpiece express still carries the std line, and I'm sure there are plenty on most music stores' shelves. Hard to imagine Yamaha scrapping a very popular line of affordable mpcs. BTW, what Yamaha mpc are you looking for?

My 8335rg is in the shop for repairs and I've been playing my Ambassador. I like the way it(the Ambassador) plays with a Bach 7C so I thought I'd try a Yamaha 7Cish piece. My thinking is that maybe a Yamaha piece will fit well with my Yamaha horn. _________________ Adams/ACB collaborative

Bob,
I noticed this a few months ago and emailed Yamaha. Their product specialist replied that the standard mouthpieces are not discontinued, and they would fix the website. It was news to him that the website listed them as discontinued.
It sounds like the website isn't a high priority at Yamaha USA.

The Yamaha 11B4 is a dandy of a mouthpiece. Just the standard model, not the high-speed GP heavy which doesn't play as well (for me). The 11B4 rim is very comfortable, old Mt.Vernon-ish and feels smaller than the new Bach 7C. You're right that the Yamaha mouthpieces seem to fit particularly well with Yamaha horns, particularly their flugels. |

Mark, you sold me (not that you were trying). I think I'll pick up an 11B4 and see how it plays with my 6335HS. Brand new they are 19.99 on Ebay. |

To be clear the equivalent to the Bach 7C Yamaha marks as 11C4/7C (as I recall). To me the Yamaha has a noticably more comfortable rim than the Bach 7C, more like the Bach 3C but smaller. As a long time 3C player I like the Yamaha 11 size rim for the picc.
Yamaha says the 11C4 is closest to the Bach 7C and that the 11B4 is closer to the Bach 7D, though many feel the 11B4 is closer in cup volume to the 7C. _________________ "I'm an engineer, which means I think I know a whole bunch of stuff I really don't."
