Hey there!

I am fooling around with the YAMAHA Bobby Shew Lead right now. Have been playing it for a couple of weeks - didn't expect it to work for me, since I have always been a 'Large ID'-player.

BUT, I can actually play this thing.

So now I need some advice from those of you who have played this piece:

I need a 'legit / classical' piece that matches the Lead, something with a similar ID/rim

Any ideas?!

Thanks in advance,
Marty

Marty; I had a Shew Jazz by Yamaha for a while. I think it was very much like a 3C but I'd think the two would both be workable together since they're endorsed by Shew, right?

The Shew Jazz is my go-to classical piece. It's a better 3c than my 3c.

If you look at the Kanstul comparator a Bach 10-1/2C or Yamaha 11/12 is the same ID but with a lot more room in the cup.

I have the YAMAHA Bobby Shew Jazz, but I think it is VERY different from the 'Lead'. I don't think they match each other at all

they don't match at all.
the jazz is a 655
the lead is a 635

the rim on the lead is thicker but the bite is about the same contour as well as the outer radius, but the lead is still the thicker rim

a 10 1/2 C is a real good match

Good luck. I came close with a Marcink. 10.5 C, also borrowed an old Mt. Vernon 10.5 C that was ideal. However, the owner would not part with it and no matter how many others I tried it was useless. That's why I don't play the Shew anymore. I could never find a matching legit piece.

I'm with you here - while I *love* the Shew Jazz, I also bottom out on the Shew Lead. if I could find a good lead piece to match the Jazz, I'd go there in a second.

The Shew Jazz is a great match for the Shew Lead, I have both including the Shew flugel. All work great together.

If I'm not mistaking the OP, he is looking for a rim that matches the lead. As in diameter, but with a deeper cup. SchilkeShaker, I have a solution for you! PM me!
