Which single hard case would fit the Schilke XA1 cornet so that it does not shift around and even better, "fits like a glove"?

Searching on TH shows that XA1 might fit into a Getzen case. However, XA1 wrap has a wider shepherd's crook than Eterna 800 or Custom 3850. Ditto if you compare XA1 with Yamaha cornets, even though some of them are Schilke designs.

wwbw.com sells the J. Winter Deluxe Short Cornet Case (made in Germany):

Any experiences about it?

A customizable case where one could adjust the positions of the pads would likely work better. Other than Coyote which is a 2.5, what would be the other customizable hard case options?

It's not a hard case, but the Protech cornet case works. Very boring but good protection.

Yeah, the Protec cornet case may not technically be a "hard case", but it might as well be. Very sturdy, protective, and affordable. Only downside is no mute storage inside the case.

Was not the Protec case short of padding in the shepherd's crook / receiver section?

Have you seen these?

Don't know close the fit is but you could always ask the supplier.

Hi

I don't know about the XA1, but I have two of these, one for my Bach and one for my Smith Watkins K-2. The Bach 184 is slightly different in wrap and proportions to say a Sovereign or Xeno, and the Smith Watkins is fairly long well wise, and doesn't for example fit in a fusion case.

http://www.johnpacker.co.uk/Catalogue/Accessories/Brass-Accessories/Cases-and-Gig-Bags/Cornet-Cases/JP801-Large-Cornet-Case-206899

These are more of a semi-rigid case, and the mute storage compartment, is far smaller than the Walstein one FrankM posted the link to (I like the look of that cornet case, especially the size of the mute storage compartment). I can fit a K&M cornet stand, Denis Wick straight mute and small bottle of water in the mute section of my John Packer case, but try as I might, I just can't get a Denis Wick cup mute in, even when separated into two.

I can however hold more mutes in the aquae sulis case. However, although definitely a hard case, the quality of the aquae sulis, is less, with plastic hardware, and poorer padding. In fact, I was quite unimpressed, when mine arrived.

http://www.daveballard.co.uk/shop-item-1432_Aquae-Sulis-Besson-Style-Cornet-Case.php

This version looks better.

http://www.daveballard.co.uk/shop-item-939_Aquae-Sulis-Deluxe-Leatherette-Cornet-Case.php

I really hope that the above helps, but I'll just re-iterate, that I've never seen a XA1 in person, not alone looked for a case for one.

Take Care

Lou

You are very welcome.

I has however occurred to me, that being in the UK, I've posted links to UK retailers. The John Packer case is only available from John Packers in the UK, but I'm not sure about the aquae sulis cases.

Take Care

Lou

Lou,

The John Packer website redirected me to a Canadian retailer. We'll see how that works out.

Andy,

Thank you for the tip! That seems to be the YAC CRC-2610 case that fits the Yamaha Eb cornet YCR-2610SII. Note the wide shepherd crook in YCR-2610SII (left) and Schilke XA1 (right):

I have an XA1 that came with a Schilke hard case. Why not call Schilke (or one of their dealers, like Pennisula Music) and see where you can get one?

I have an XA1 and also an old Yamaha 2330 cornet. I will see if the XA1 fits in the Yamaha case. Also, you may want to check out Dillon's music, they have cases on ebay all the time. They have a Schilke sop case now but they also may have an XA1 case at their store.

From a TM post of 03-18-2004:
Quote:
The subsequent cases have been removed from the Schilke catalog:

100-P -- Piccolo Trumpet
110 -- Single Cornet
110-E -- Eb Cornet
111 -- Single Trumpet

These cases have been replaced by the innovative #112 Double Trumpet Case, which feature:

* Classic wood shell design
* Front and side handles
* Adjustable interior via a removable blocking system
* Improved fit with little front to back or side to side motion tolerance
* Additional room for mouthpieces, small accessories and slides
* Meets most Airline carry on baggage restrictions

Well I was a bit mistaken. My Yamaha is a 233s model, but the XA1 fits pretty nicely in the case.

Thank you!

Is your 233 stored in a tan case (old style) or a brown case (new style)?
