What method? Any ability to track? I have a trumpet in the case, probably 15-17 pounds packed. Curious about cost so I can give a buyer a price. Thanks. _________________ Conn 6B

A few years ago I checked and USPS was by far the most affordable. If you go to the link below I think you can get a pretty close estimate to cost at the USPS.
It's a combination of size of box (length, width, etc.) and weight that is entered. Figuring a 26 x 15 x 12 at 17 lbs from my zip to Japan shows about $122.00.
I think 17 pounds is heavy - unless your case is really heavy. Last Ebay sale I did was about $88 to Japan, but it was a cornet so the case was 24 x 12 x 12 and about 11 pounds.

That's the link - good luck! Holler if you need more... _________________ Jonathan Milam

+1 on USPS - I have shipped horns to many countries and USPS has it down, is trackable, and is easy to work with. You can get a better deal on postage through paying for it on the USPS website. _________________ Dave Wondra

I think the mods have removed some unwanted posts from someone who has temporarily returned to express themselves inappropriately in the forum. He must be referring to that. |

USPS will be the most affordable option. I usually send via the USPS express option. I quote $100 and if it's less I send the few bucks back to the buyer. Think the total usually ends up being somewhere between $75 and $100. _________________ Charles Russell Roberts

Thanks for that info. It's heavy because the case is heavy... don't have the exact weight.
Let's stay on topic so I can get the information I need. Thanks. _________________ Conn 6B

Express usually doesn't cost much mute than priority for trumpets with cases due to box size restrictions for priority. Well worth the couple extra dollars. _________________ Charles Russell Roberts

Thanks. the case and trumpet weigh in at over 13 lbs un-boxed. I'll go on the USPS site and get a number. _________________ Conn 6B

By all means do the Express option. Priority International won't let you insure, and it's just a few dollars cheaper.
Make sure you check the option for "package" rather than "large package." This can be confusing because, I believe on page the "large package" option states "larger than 12". " _________________ Cornets:

and be sure to check the maximum size for the box. I just made a shipment to the UK and was over the maximum size by 4 inches and had to ship priority instead of express. I could have used a slightly smaller box but once I was at the front of the line, there was no way I was going to go back home and re-pack in a smaller box. Insurance limits and box sizes vary by country, but I have had very good results with USPS Express to many countries. Japan gets tracked to the door. _________________ Clay Collins

I have shipped all over and the price is outrageous if you go with FedEx or UPS with full insurance. I have had 100% success rate shipping with USPS using priority international or express international its half the price of the other carriers as well. _________________ 47 Martin Committee #3
