cup mute + flugel is a natural making very cool sound. i was pleased the mute inserted into my WT flugel with no need for addition cork. makes the horn a bit front heavy not rising to issue status. this is just the ticket for me, playing in a small house with low ceilings.
i tried putting cotton balls into the cup and they would not stay. by the shape of the cup's rim, 4 rubber bands could be stretched across or perhaps some better thought.
