Did Holton make a cornet like this? Hard to imagine an intermediate silver cornet with a Gold-plate inner-bell but I think I've seen one.

Anyone know for sure if it was done much? Special order? Seen any?

And for those who know Holton, how did their '65 era Galaxy trumpets play as a rule?

As always - thanks to those who know and share.

I don't know about Holton, but Olds definitely offered the the entire line of Ambassador brasses in silver plate with gold bell-wash. I recently cleaned up a 1959 Ambassador cornet in that finish.

Interesting. I'd like to see an Ambassador like that; sounds nice. Ran across a Holton Collegiate like this and I'm wondering if its original. Always attractive, I must say.

Any experience with a Holton Galaxy trumpet, particularly mid-60's vintage?

Here you go:

It was a really cute little horn, in amazing condition. And I desperately tried to come up with a justification to buy it. But I have better cornets, even if they don't look as good, and I have no financial motivation to own a cornet -- there are no paying cornet gigs out there.

I had a Holton Galaxy and found it to be a very well built horn with decent Nickel plating in mine. Good valve action and very nice tone. The wrap turned out to be a bit uncomfortable for my left hand and the the 3rd slide was hard to move out cleanly, even after extensive cleaning off. I tried both using the ring finger and adjacent ist finger. The length of whatever mouthpiece you use can affect the placement of the tuning slide, all in or part out depending on the length of the shaft.

Dave; super reply. That's just the type info I'm looking for and I appreciate the input. It can be most irritating to have a third slide that won't work with you; good to hear the valve action was nice.
