Hey y'all,
It's been a while since I have posted, so I figured I would share a clip from the debut performance of my new ensemble project--on this tune I'm playing EWI:
What's the difficulty level for EWI playing and can someone with no prior wind instrument experience learn to play one? _________________ "Nobody can go back and start a new beginning, but anyone can start today and make a new ending." - Maria Robinson

I can't really speak to either of those questions because that's all relative to what prior knowledge and experiences one has had in music. I have been playing since EWI since May of this year. The thing is, I'm not playing anything on the EWI that I wouldn't be able to play on the trumpet, so I was able to get into the groove of learning EWI pretty easily (I think) because I already had a lot of musical skills which transferred over.
The EWI feels artificial, so I would hope that one would learn a wind instrument first to understand the human characteristics of making an acoustic instrument work. That is very helpful knowledge to transfer to an EWI. _________________ --

So are you using wind fingering or I heard the EWI can also do trumpet fingerings? _________________ Smith Watkins, Mike Lovatt studio.

yep! And I love John D's playing too. Darren Barrett is also fantastic on the EVI. Of Course Nyle Steiner is the granddaddy of all the EVI players and is astonishing but for me Swana is the best in the world now that Michael Brecker has passed. Swana's sounds (he programs them all) are fantastic!
It's a great instrument that should be talked about more. I play an EWI 1000 and am looking for Steiner Midi EVI if anyone has one
Yooo, that patch sounds so realistic! How'd you make that happen? I couldn't tell the 'real' sax and the EVI apart if I wasn't looking at it for much of it!

Yo Victor; If you look closely, you will see a laptop on stage. Running Kontakt 5 with Sample Modeling saxes. Also have the bone, horn, tuba, and windpaks from Patchman. And I use a Yamaha 70VL and Roladn JV1010 in my rack.
Here's a horn demo I did with the Kontakt 5 in my home studio:

I bought the EWI two months ago and just did my first live improvisation with it this week. Took me some time (and I'm still practicing of course) to get used to the EVI-finger setting..
