I'm guessing that there has been much written about this topic in the past, but I thought I'd share some recent experience. I was curious about a good web resource for this topic. Tom Crown has one that some may find useful: http://www.tomcrownmutes.com/learn_history.html.

I just finished fitting an H&B Stone Lined Cup Mute and Straight Mute (http://www.humesandberg.com/product_listing.php?category_id=1&scid=2) to my 1952 Blessing Super Artist. They are looking and sounding pretty good!

I used a tool that once rode in my nail pouch when I worked as a carpenter many years ago. It is called an 8" 4-in-Hand file (http://www.apexhandtools.com/brands/nicholson_files/index.cfm?model_list=1&att_id=NFI001&att1=Files&att2=4-in-Hand%20?reg;), and it makes cork filing a breeze - just take it easy!

Jim
