I'm in need of an Eb/D trumpet. I played on a few Shires trumpets that I really enjoyed. Anyone have or know where I can buy a good quality one for a price somewhere around $3000? I need the Eb/D one, not just the Eb.

I doubt you'll be able to find one in that price range (maybe try a WTB ad though).
Those are some good horns (thank goodness I don't need an Eb/D or I'd have to buy one of those)

I play the 6SM8 with both Eb and D bells. It's an awesome horn.

The Shires Eb/D is probably my favorite Eb/D on the market. However, I remain loyal to my E3L that I've had since the mid 1980's. Shires really hasn't produced all that many Eb/D horns yet so it isn't going to be easy to find one on the used market.

You can't go wrong with a Shires, although you may have to wait a while on a waiting list or something, and it probably won't be in your price range.

My question is... What does a high schooler need a top of the line Eb/D trumpet for?

According to their website a new Shires in Eb costs $2795 and one in Eb/D costs $3695. At that price it doesn't sound unreasonable for a used one to fall in the $3000 range.
