No, wait! I want to know more about that intonationly-challenged model. What's her name? Gisele? Kate? Come on I need to know, so I don't ask her to sing on our next date.

1) I want one.
2) I really want one.

FWIW, I would prefer that it would be lacquered; plating would cover up all the pretty.

Ooh... This is getting interesting!

Thanks for sharing info about the horn, Adam. Can't wait to hear what it sounds like.

And I thought I was bad with my 5 different Getzens, and the other two my kids use...Also, I think my first flugel is currently being developed in Wisconsin!

Seeing how CarolBrass has offered an "All Bronze right right down to the valve assembly" trumpet as well as giving customers the choice of what they want the knuckle material to be and all kinds of other options at a fantastic price point on every model with out much of a wait.

Sigh.

Carol Brass Carol Brass Carol Brass, blah blah blah blah blah. Somehow Capt., I suspect you've never even played a Carol Brass instrument, and even if you did, I doubt it was a flugel, assuming of course, you've actually PLAYED a flugel on a regular basis. If that's not the case, you really have no proper perspective to even discuss this thread.

I hope you will like wise get rid of one of the seriously flawed intonation-ly(sp) challenged models from the line up as you add the new model. Basically giving each category or marketing price point in your catalog a upgrade while holding price stable.

And you know this how? If there were " seriously flawed intonation-ly(sp) challenged models" in the product lines of either Kanstul or Getzen, they wouldn't sell. Why you ask? It's due to this "radical" concept called Supply and Demand.

In fact given the fact that I can buy a YTR clone Flugel in Copper for under $300 their is no material you could use that would justify an increase in cost.

Well yeah, you might be able to buy a YTR clone for under $300, but you get what you pay for. The Yamaha will be vastly superior in all aspects.

Quote:
You have almost ZERO marketing I am guessing more people have heard about your Proteus and 3051 because of me then anything you have done on your end.

OK, I actually fell off the couch on this one because I was laughing so hard.

I might sound like a jerk but I really hate the idea of seeing Kanstul or Getzen get swallowed up and ran out of business because both companies where clueless with regards to how to reinvent themselves so they do not get their teeth kicked in by Asian upstarts that are smart enough to do exactly what I have said domestics need to do!

I don't even know where to begin. The reason Kanstul and Getzen HAVE survived and flourished, is due to the fact that they know their intended audience, have terrific quality, products and price points, and IMO, are family owned - they each have a vested stake in their own respective futures.

Capt., quite honestly, you can't be taken seriously on anything you say. Period.

(I try to ignore him, I really do, but sometimes.....)

Kiku?

BTW - Adam, thanks a lot for ruining my sleep cycle for the last few days ... I just lay in there thinking about this new flugel (I hate to wait) ...

Seriously, thanks for sharing the inside stuff with us prior to release.

I chose my first Getzen back in 1976 because it played better than everything else that I tried (& I tried many, many horns). I couldn't be happier with my 3850 custom series cornet or 3003 Genesis ... so I expect this horn to be amazing and I expect to buy one.

Keep up the great work!

I thought I saw one heavy valve bottom (lower cap) on the 3rd valve.

My understanding was that if using only one heavy cap it was to go on the valve/piston that the mouth-pipe connected to? Which on a flugelhorn would be the 1st valve?

Gary.

Gary... Glad to see you're checking out what we are up to.
Adam was hesitant to release photos as we are still in the process of completion---however everyones curiousity and enthusiasm was so overwhelming he chose to tell you what he could.

That being said keep in mind that there may be minor tweaks and adjust ments as we near completion, so keep an eye on us.

Thank you for your interest,

Mr. Getzen,

Not to derail your posts--but has Getzen ever considered making a Pro Tenor Horn?

I think with all of the success of your company and its quest to stay with "what the public wants," a professional Tenor Norn might be next in your in your R&D area.

Ofr course, with the famous Getzen stainless steel valves.

I've been told by knowledgeable people that before Monette started using CAD technology, they used your valves and brass for their horns.

The running joke was always that if you want a 15K Monette, buy a 3K Edwards III and Bob's Your Uncle… I sm assuming that while a separate company, Edwards falls under the corporate umbrella of Getzen.

I've been reading the Getzen Gazette since the mid-60s when I was a 9 year old 4th grader starting out on the trot. and it was all about Doc (who I met when performing on the Carson show in the early 90s) but there was always this mysterious looking "older guy" named Tony Scoodwell who I thought was just a lackey. I found out later just exactly who Mr. Scoodwell was/is later on.

But please: do consider the possibility of the production of a Tenor Horn--I suspect it would have much success--at least in the States. Euro? Probably due to the lottery system perhaps not as well regarding popularity.

Did I just talk you out of the Tenor Horn?

I hope not.

Wishing you success with the flug.

Best wishes,
crt1974

If you want a good tenor horn, the best around is the Yamaha Neo, followed pretty closely by the Besson Prestige.

Yup. You do.

And it seems like you're getting worse, but the Mod's don't care and there's a small Greek chorus that weeps for you at every turn.

Pity.

I've been playing my student Yamaha flugel since my parents bought it for me new in 1986, so I'm definitely overdue for an upgrade.

I can't wait to see how this project turns out Adam!!!!

re the cap'n's reservations about the continuity of kanstul and getzen.
zig is all grown up with large personal qualities and resources. the kanstul company is run like a quadruple vested suit. they take revenue from different streams. they may not be thrilled as to new horn volume nowadays but even pulled back to a tighter core, it's a healthy outfit. they showed the world with the tubas and didn't have to wait for better times which is pretty astounding. brick, on brick. people will show up to work at the factory the day after a nuclear holocaust.
getzen can probably take care of themselves as well.
the 'buy american' ethic is strangely rooted in both american and many european buyers. the smaller american makers are my first choice for new instruments. the big boys aren't going to drive them out of business.

Sure, here is a close up of the connecting braces between the valves and the new style braces between the slide tubes.

I'd suggest going to http://www.getzen.com/dealer/ and plugging in your zip code. Once you find your dealer tell them about your interest.
