You have got to listen to Roy Hargrove's CD, "Moment to Moment." This may be the best collection of ballads I have ever heard - especially "Always and Forever." Roy's phrasing is other-worldly. Simply fantastic. Turn down the lights. Sit down by the fireplace. Pour yourself a cup of coffee and listen closely.

Bill Evans: The Complete Village Vanguard Recordings, 1961.

Lots of great music everyone is listening to!
As I was reading through the reponses on this forum, I saw the Philip Catherine with Tom Harrell reply. I have most of Tom's recordings and a few of Philip's, in particular, the two with Chet Baker.

Well, sorry to ramble,....
I just went online and bought Philip Catherine's I Remember You, Moods V.1, and V.2. That's who I'll be listening to when the CDs arrive!

Moment to Moment by Roy Hargrove is the best collection of ballads I have ever heard. This is now my favorite recording of trumpet/flugelhorn music.

I've been listening to the Tyler Mire Big Band album "Movin' Day" a lot lately. I think it's great.

Just finished listening to LA Phil perform Mahler 9. Live! At Benaroya Hall in Seattle (Home of the SSO).

I had never heard this live before and it was quite the experience. Horns had a Ton of work and played fantastically. Mr. Hooten, the Principal trumpet, played beautifully. Lots of solos, each musical. I especially enjoyed the high and quiet solos in the (I think) third movement. Wow.

Mute note...before the performance began, I borrowed my brothers binoculars and spied a cool mute. In addition to a standard looking straight mute, Mr. Hooten had what looked to be an all-wood, brown mute. I was sitting in the top balcony pretty much straight in his path so I had a downward-looking angle, but it looked like a cup mute....made of wood. I think he only used it briefly in the third movement. Interesting.

The performance was sublime. Thanks for the ticket, Dad!

Wayne Bergeron's 'Full Circle'.

Seriously tasteful musicality going on here, with incredibly precise tightness by Wayne and the lads.

This is a wickedly BAAAD album!
