Where can I get a good recording of the Kent Kennan Concerto? I have searched Kazaa and other music sharing web sites(shame on me), but I'm drawing nothing but blanks. Please help!

Ray Mase also recorded it on a CD called 20th Century trumpet or something like that.

trumpet fro-
you are talking about the Kennan Sonata? I'm not sure if Kennan wrote a "concerto" for trumpet, but I know that he did write a Sonata. Are we all talking about the same thing?

The Ray Mase recording is very good. It is on the "Trumpet in Our Time" CD.

Both recordings mentioned are very good to grasp the style of the Kennan Sonata. Listening to this piece is also important to understand how the piano fits in and lining up the mixed meter sections.

there is also a famous fitzpatrick recording of it. the flutter tonguing and lucky charms commercials during the secong movement is interesting.

There are a few good recordings out there on CD. I assume you mean the Sonata, not his "Il Campo dei Fiori" for tpt and orchestra. Here are some Sonata recordings:

James Darling: Music for Tpt and Piano (Advent 5006)
Jouko Harjanne: American Tpt Sonatas (Finlandia 17691)
David Hickman: David Hickman, Tpt (Crystal 668)
Raymond Mase: Tpt in Our Time (Summit 148)
Scott Thornburg: Music for Tpt and Piano (Centaur 2554)

The 1986 version is on the Mase and Harjanne CDs, and the Hickman was recorded following a discussion with Kennan about some possible changes, so it is an updated 1956 version. While Kennan recommends the Mase for the updated version, he had recommended the Marice Stith LP recording years ago (Golden Crest 7042), so it's nice to hear as well. It does seem strange to me that there are not lots more recordings of such a popular work...

The Kennan Sonata was arranged for wind ensemble and solo Trumpet a few years ago.

I found it on a recording featuring Vince DiMartino with the Syracuse Wind Ensemble along with other trumpet works.

The other works on the recording include :

Fisher Tull's Concerto # 2 for trumpet
Prayer of St. Gregory
Solo De Concours - Charlier/Laverty
La Reine D'Amour - Sousa/Laverty
Solea - Gill Evans/Muccioli

You can get the recording through http://www.markcustom.com .
Btw, the Fisher Tull concerto is amazing.
