How good is the Getzen Eterna cornet?

This is a MONDAY afternoon edit to my original post. What does this Eterna look like to you... the guy doesn't give any details as to bore, bell, etc. It appears to be in good shape and the serial number puts it at 1988.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2566677829

Any comments... auction is over in about 3 hours.

Are there different models of the Eterna or just one??

Any experiences to share??

What mouthpiece works best with the Eterna??

Nice cornet for the money.
It's not at the top of my list (that spot is taken by the Prestige, followed by the Maestro I actually use), but it is a very respectable cornet.
Mouthpiece wise, I found that my normal cornet mouthpieces worked fine (Warburton or Denis Wick, depending how much cornet playing I am doing).

Hi
I own two eternas a 800s and 850 laq with rose brass bell and lead pipe .
the 850 have the trad british wrap and the 800 have a yellow brass bell and gold brass lead pipe and is a very useful horn for my dixieland gigs the wrap is short but little different both horns are large bore personaly i prefer the 800s(siler plated) but both instruments are great
I use Warburton mpcs with deep v cups
Regards
Yiannis

Just taken another look at this auction - that looks like a short model soprano cornet to me.

The giveaway is the tuning slide being at the leadpipe, like piccolo trumpets. That, along with the missing crook that would make it a Bb cornet.

ahhhh ... good to know and glad you have some knowledge about this... never having played a cornet, I'm pretty much in the dark... ebay is certainly a place you want to do your homework before you "jump in".

I might be better off looking into a new Eterna... or maybe a Kanstul ccc930. I have heard good things about both.

as for the auction listed above... I think I'll sit back and watch... I wonder if those bidders think it's a Bb and possibly it isn't?? and I'm sure the "pawn shop" that is selling it doesn't know.

I won I won... you guys about let the "cat out of that Bag" I knew it was an Eb & had been hopeing the price would stay down.. This horn is the reason I asked about Getzen Soprano Cornet in an Earlier post..
I got it for $446 so even if I don't like it I think I can resell it on ebay & get that out of it.. Plus I won't be able to get my Yamaha YCR261 Soprano for at least another month becuase it's current owner is still waiting for his Blackburn.

I like Getzen Horns.. Love my 4 valve Flugel .. I Like my Getzen Eterna Picc.. Will eventually get a Getzen Eterna Bb Cornet.. I have a pretty immediate need for an Eb Soprano so I figured why not..
Here is one selling for $495 at Dillions & it doesn't have a case & doesnt look as good.

I'm glad I worked Overtime Last week

Congrats Kevin!! glad you got what you were looking for... I looked that horn up in the serial # for Getzen and it dates to 1988. I put in a couple of bids myself then found out it wasn't a Bb... shows you how much I know... but it did look like a beautiful horn. Mine was the $300 and $400 bids... gee, maybe if I had stayed out of it.. you would have won it for $346

I'm looking for a Bb of some sort... maybe a Getzen.. maybe a Kanstul... I'm just not sure how much different one would sound than my already dark and mellow WT trumpet.

I'm also now curious about the long model cornets vs. the short model (shepard's crook)... but I really can't find any information the differences. I did post a new thread regarding that subject so maybe I'll find out something.

anyway... Congrats ... enjoy the new horn.

I had a feeling that other people would have noticed that it was a soprano, I just thought I would make that knowledge public - I am that sort of guy!
If it plays anything like my long model Getzen soprano, you will be very happy.

Enjoy
