Does anyone know if the Dave Stahl Model was labeled differently from the standard ST 100, or are they one and the same? Thank you |

Assuming you're talking about a vintage horn and Holton didn't completely change the specs, yes, an ST-100 is just labeled ST-100. The blurb on a vintage advertisement for the ST-200 (Bud Brisbois model), says of the ST-100:
"Another Holton great, featuring all the attractions of the ST-200, but with .459 bore (11.6 mm). This is the ST model chosen by famed big-band musician Dave Stahl." (The Brisbois model was a larger bore, at .465.)
Of the specs listed for the ST-200 is "a thinner gauge one-piece bell (hand pegged in yellow brass)" so I assume the Stahl model also has a light weight bell.
Interestingly, a vintage parts catalog I have shows each model shares the identical tapered portion of the mouthpipe. _________________ Dave M

Thank you. I learned that Stahl put the Brisbois bell on his horn. Apparently there were only a few made and marked ST100L. |

Is Dave still on this horn? Holton made some fantastic trumpets. A Holton with a .459 bore and a nice, lightweight bell would probably be amazing. I know that if you put a first valve saddle on the old Holton Collegiate (not the new T602 models), you could take it around as a pro horn and do quite well.
