Hello friends, wanted to share my first upload to Soundcloud with you. I've been messing around with Garage Band for a couple of years now and have written around 20 tunes or so, just getting up the nerve to post and share one of them. Nothing earth shattering here for sure. Simple set up, Garage Band on Mac mini, an old Yamaha PSR-48 Keyboard, Bongos, Tambourine, SM57 mic and my trumpet…. I'm sure the mix can be better etc., but I have no plans for CD etc, just want to share my music. This song is Caminando Por Las Calles (Walking The Streets) Hope you enjoy. And I hope the upload/link works.
Thank You.
Rick

Wow, phenomenal phrasing, tone and range - would be great to hear more. That SM-57 captures the horn nicely. Thanks for sharing. How close are you to the mic? Off or on axis?

I've also been messing with GarageBand after coming home from work.

Here's a deconstruction of the Super Mario theme: https://soundcloud.com/vivek-patel/super-mario-fair-use

Some death metal with flugelhorn (?)

Thank you for the encouragement NYC, very much appreciated.
VP, thank you as well, your playing on those recordings is amazing! I'm not near as sophisticated of a composer or player, but admire those who posses such vocabulary and technic as yourself! I'm approximately 12" straight in front of the mic, I'm using a soft screen pop filter like they use on vocals in the studio etc., I've tried (borrowed) using more expensive condenser mic's, but just couldn't control the room noise, when I turn the gain down on my interface to reduce the room noise, I seem to loose the intensity in my sound, so SM57 it is. I'm leaving for tour tomorrow and will post some more tunes when I return next week. Thanks again fellas!
Rick

Your upper register sounds fantastic. Great work man!

Edit: It all sounds great, but the upper register is very clean and controlled.

Hello once again. I am a little hesitant to post this, as I am not a studied trumpet player and lack many skills, especially in the classical / technic dept. But I wanted to share this song as it is a dedication to my parents who both left us way too early, worked hard to keep a family of eight fed & happy, they were both wonderful musicians who passed along their love of music to me and my siblings. This is called "Solo Para Mis Padres" - "Solo for my Parents" I hope you like it, I know the playing could be better, but it took many takes for me to get the right "feel", there are some timing issues, etc., but I did my best. Thanks for listening.

Yeah man.

First I enjoyed them the story behind the tune. Nice homage to your parents

The song is kind of haunting, like the Godfather meets Herb Alpert. Also you gave a great trumpet sound. I hear that Benge "bark" in there.

Keep it up man!

Rick, Thanks for posting. Sounds pretty good for a simple set up. Love the sound of the horn on the first post. Any sound effects with the horn? Sounds like there's a little reverb in there. You are inspiring me to try my own hand at recording.

Hi Grits, yes I added reverb at about 30% and Echo at about 25%, I live in an A Frame type house, so I have a very open room to record in. I've tried different technique's that I have observed while in the studio for other artist etc., (Baffles, room mic, off mic etc.) but I always seem to get the best sound (that I like) just playing about 12" straight on the mic into an open room. I also use a soft "pop" filter. I hope this helps! Yes, you should just go for it, I've been playing music for 50 years and have never composed anything until about 2 years ago. Technology is a wonderful thing, I sometimes wish I had this when I was in my prime, but I am grateful nevertheless that I have it now. Thanks for listening.

What a beautiful tribute to your parents, wonderfully executed. It is clear that they passed their love of music to you. And as far as skills, with your sound i'd say you have some skills sir. Great Stuff.

regards,

Tom
