Want to 2nd the recommendations for the Jupiter-XO 1646 flugel. I had been playing an old Selmer flugel, which I loved for its compact, sweet sound, but was having problems because there was no intonation adjustment for the valve slides. Picked up the 1646RS and I can say I feel comfortable playing it in any scenario - big bands, shows, small group. Very versatile and easy playing. Beautiful sound, too. I chose the rose brass bell, which most folks prefer, from what I hear.

I have been on a flugelhorn safari for over a decade now. Tried Courtouis, Kanstul, Yamaha and etc. Well, last month I visited Hub Van Laar in Margraten, Holand and my safari ended!!! Unparalleled sound, quality of craftsmanship, velvet airy sound, in tune, I can just go on and on. IMHO these are hands down the very best flugels ever build. Hub actually build me three instruments to choose among and helped me out with a lead pipe as well. I spent almost two days at the factory, got to spend some time with Hub and get to know the way they build the instruments. They make no compromise with nothing! Quality is consistent, every detail is hand build, truly boutique shop. Don't bother try anything else if you want the best. Well, again, it is just my humble opinion! Wishing you best of luck!
