Hello everyone! I've just been informed that I have some assistantships available for this year at the Oregon Center for the Arts at Southern Oregon University in Ashland, Oregon. This is a picturesque retreat setting with a light academic component to really have the time to hone your skills not only as a performer, but also as a musical entrepreneur.
These assistantships include not only a 100% tuition waiver, but also a generous living stipend. Qualified applicants will gain valuable experience in the SOU Faculty Brass Quintet, the Rogue Valley Symphony, the Britt Festivals, and the Tony-Award winning Oregon Shakespeare Festival, as well as other copious amounts or chamber music opportunity.
****WE ACCEPT RECORDED AUDITIONS****
Please email me at kocurekd@sou.edu and let me know if you have any questions! Below is the listing:
MASTER OF MUSIC IN TRUMPET PERFORMANCE
Southern Oregon University offers the Master of Music degree with a performance major in trumpet, percussion, piano, saxophone, horn, woodwinds, and voice. The Master of Music prepares you to be a professional musician as a solo artist and ensemble performer. The program combines intensive performance with scholarly rigor. Requirements include applied study in your major area, repertory study and related core coursework in music history and theory. Solo and chamber recitals, a research project, and comprehensive oral examinations also are required. A limited number of graduate assistantships are available.
Trumpeters accepted to the MM in Trumpet Performance will study with Dan Kocurek. As lead trumpet with the world-renowned Dallas Brass, Dan performed throughout North America, in front of audiences from 10 to over 10,000. His travels have led to performing with famed artists Jens Lindemann, Mark Gould, Ryan Anthony, Bobby Shew, Martin Hackleman, and Alain Trudel, among many others. Dan has appeared as a concerto soloist with the Vancouver Metropolitan Orchestra, the Pro Nova Ensemble, the West Coast Symphony, and will be appearing with the Rogue Valley Symphony in 2017. In tandem with Christine Eggert (piano faculty at SOU), he has also been establishing himself as an internationally touring recitalist. Dan is currently lead trumpet with the Tony-Award winning Oregon Shakespeare Festival and performs regularly with the Rogue Valley Symphony and the RVS Brass Quintet. Also in demand as a conductor, Dan brings his boundless energy as the Artistic Director of the Rogue Valley Symphonic Band and the SOU Concert Choir.
Applicants must satisfy the general university and Master of Music requirements. University requirements include a TOEFL score of 540 or higher, if applicable. Program-specific requirements include an audition and 3 letters of recommendation. Upon admission, students are required to take placement exams in history, theory/aural skills, and piano proficiency.
The vibrant performing arts life in southern Oregon, coupled with the beauty in the region, serve as an inspirational, retreat-like setting for creating thinking and artistic performance. Join students from all over the world who admire our performance facilities, the intensive faculty-student interaction, and the creative, connected, and personal experience SOU provides.
Priority will be given to applicants who apply prior to February 15, 2017. For more information visit sou.edu/music or contact:
