What are the some of the best places these days to hear jazz in Paris? (the one in France, not Kentucky.) _________________ Jim Hatfield

Yes, I second Duc des Lombards, they have a website : http://www.ducdeslombards.com/
When are you going there ? Because the Paris Jazz Festival will be in June and July with free concerts in a park every week-end :
http://www.parisjazzfestival.fr/
There are also very often good concerts in the New Morning (http://www.newmorning.com/), but it is not 100% a jazz place, so you have a lot of other genres as well. |

Thanks, gruik! I'll be in Paris In mid-June on the front and back end of a bike 'n barge trip.
Got a nice phone call from LA trumpeter Ron Meza (homebilly on TH) who'll be playing in one of the clubs while I'm there and I hope to catch him.
Ron is in a bunch of You Tube clips, including this one.

Well, I think that both by reputation and fact, Duc des Lombards is THE standard for Paris jazz clubs.
But my favorite is the Latin Quarter hang-out, Le Caveau de la Huchette. The performance space is down the steps into a dungeon-like space in a building that dates to the 16th century. Unofficial history links the space to the Revolution and to secret meetings of the Rosicrucians and Freemasons.
Since becoming a jazz club in the late 1940's, it has hosted some of the greats like Lionel Hampton, Count Basie, and Art Blakey on their European tours. (And, of course, our TH member, FEDJAZZ.)
I do have, in general, a prejudice favoring the Left Bank. If you start hanging out at Le Caveau, and the near-by book stores and coffee shops, you may catch the same fixation.

In 2006 I played at two jazz clubs in Paris: Le Petit Journal and Caveau de la Huchette. Le Caveau, we were told, was at one time part of the huge Parisian sewer system and also where animal experiments were conducted with the guillotine. I suspect these stories are in the same category with those about who invented jazz, but both venues were very interesting places.

Howdy folks! Resurrecting this thread because I'll be visiting Paris for my first time in April this year, and would appreciate any further recommendations you fine folks could offer regarding jazz clubs. Thanks! _________________ Yamaha 8310Z trumpet

I saw Cedar Walton in Ducs last summer, just before he passed away. Wonderful concert. |
clubs in Lombard st, near Chatelet metro:
-Duc des Lombards
- Baiser Sal (more for groove/ Funky Jazz things)
- Sunset AND SUnside, two clubs at the same place.
Both are 'incontournables'. Also the historical NEW MORNING is rue des petites curies.
Website to find all of these places and many more: http://www.parisjazzclub.net/
Plus, if you see paris in June/ July, many great festivals
- Paris Jazz Festival
- La dfense Jazz Festival
Both have a nice line up.
Enjoy your trip _________________ C. LeLoiL

You might want to check out a place called 38'riv
Very good bands most of the time, and 3 or 4 times a week an excellent house band hosting a nice jam session.
Very much in the spirit of Smalls in NYC... |

Thanks, folks! Looks like there are some great resources out there. I'll be traveling with my pocket trumpet in tow, so it would be great to hit a jam session!
Cheers. _________________ Yamaha 8310Z trumpet
