When I was in maybe 3rd grade a neighbor played the trumpet. It intrigued me, and it bothered me that the neighbor didn't seem to play well or even care. I almost immediately could produce a better tone than him and it quickly became something I felt I needed to do. _________________ "I'm an engineer, which means I think I know a whole bunch of stuff I really don't."

I first started playing the trumpet when my older brother was playing it in his middle and high school band. I remember the first time I picked up the horn, and I figured out how to play a Bb concert scale up and down.
I hadn't really taken it seriously, even in grade school. I played french horn in the concert band, drums in the marching band, and I played trumpet in the jazz band. It wasn't until my Junior year of High School when I started studying with Max Colley III at Michigan State University that I really began to thing about pursuing trumpet seriously.
And the rest is history. I'm a student now at Central Michigan University studying Music Education and trumpet performance. |
