Very Nice!
I love Roy's version of that song!
Roy is so laid back as a cool cat!

Also, with your transcription, you seem to interchange dotted eighth sixteenth rhythms with swung eighths. Is there a particular reason?

Thanks! Sorry for the late reply, I didn't have the notification checked when I posted this.

First I create PDF from Finale File with margins set to "0", then I import it to photo shop, elongate the width of the file to the length I need, then cut/copy over each line individually so I get a continuous staff. Once I have everything on one line, I reduce the hight so that there is only one staff visible. I export a PNG file with a white background layer to the folder with my video/audio clips and then add it into Premiere Pro.
Once there I add the PNG as a layer over the video and reduce the size to the desired value. I preposition the PNG so it's at the beginning of the staff and is in the bottom of the video(it's in the middle by default). I then go to the effects tab while the PNG is still selected and add a marker on the X axis then drag over to the end of the video and scroll the X axis value all the way until it's at the end of the staff and add another marker in the effects tab if it didn't do so already. I add a fade in at the beginning and fade out over the end the PNG and now the easy part is over.
I hit the "Enter" key to render out the work thus far and from here it's a TON of scrubbing back and forth over parts and correcting the X axis position to ensure the staff scrolls smoothly and the notes that are being played are in the center of the video at the same time. Once that's done you just have to export everything in the format you want.

There's a lot of work involved, but if you're used to video editing or animation work it's really not too bad.

Let me know if you have any other questions or if there's something more specific in the process you'd like me to explain.

Yes actually. When I transcribe I typically don't write everything down until I've learned the entire solo/piece by ear on my horn that way I can convey the players sense of style and articulation the best way possible. I find if I don't do this all of the articulations and swing values start to mean different things on the page. I want to make it so that each time you see something written you know exactly what it means for this particular piece of music/musician you're emulating(ie- staccatos mean this length, forte means this volume, housetops on quarter notes mean this type of phrasing, etc).

For this piece Hargrove goes back and forth between a relaxed swing(mainly straight eights with an air accent on the off beats) and a hard swing(actually changing the rhythm), because of this I felt it best to differentiate these differences visually.

Thanks! I find that transcribing 8 to 12 measures every two days helps out a lot. Just get the rhythm, then figure the notes as you go and refine it all later.

I've never had someone describe my smile in that way, but I think that's probably the most accurate description I've heard yet! lol

Someone has to write an app that will do the syncing.

There are programs and add-ons that will do this, but in my experience they can still have their own faults. Some require that you always use a clap/click in the beginning and/or end of your recording, some have to have your files in specific formats, and some are just expensive.

If you're playing by yourself and using a microphone it might be okay, but if you're playing along with a track or are going to overdub/layer in something later you might as well take the time to sync it all yourself.

Who knows, there may be a program/add-on that's more affordable in the near future to handle all of this.
