I'm looking at the calendar and thinking about a Sunday in April as a likely date for this year's Hang. I always hate it when I find out I picked a day that was bad for people for some reason.

So - I'm open to suggestions. Also, open to ideas on who to invite as special guests. I've already talked to Dr. Valve who said he may be available and I think it's always good when he can attend so players can meet him and get his advice on PVAs, leadpipes, etc.

I don't know who in the celebrity player category might be in town then but it's always cool to meet the elite in our world. Roger Ingram came last year and enjoyed the afternoon. Roger, if you're listening how about it, bud? You up for a re-visit?

Any CSO guys lurking? It would be great to meet you and hear first hand what's going on in the Major Leagues.

More to come after I get some responses.

Thanks!

There are five to choose from this year.

I share a mutual acquaintance with Bobby Lewis. I could reach out and see if he'd be interested. Maybe get Bobby Schiff to play your piano too.

Cool! Will I have to get a cabaret license?

I want to make sure Andy Marchese gets an invite. He's the 95-year old guy who played with Jack Teagarden, still blows up a storm.

We've been specifically asked for a Saturday this year as some people cannot attend on Sunday.

I'm willing to consider a Saturday but only if it suits a majority and doesn't rule out anyone who could only come on Sunday.

So let me know, either by post or PM. Thanks!

I vote for a Sunday. Judging from the 30+ attendees in the past it doesn't seem to hinder many. You'll never find a day that suits everyone.

I agree. I don't know who asked for a Saturday but my guess would be that some potential attendees would be gigging Saturday night.

I've always assumed the best day and time for all concerned would be a Sunday afternoon on a day on which there's not a huge sports conflict.

A 1 to 5 PM time frame enables anyone who has a church gig to play it and still catch some Hang.

So, what I need to hear is what Sunday in April or May would best suit the most people.

Tom, if you feel the need to have a Hang on Saturday, do so at your place in Wisconsin. No reason there can't be more than one. But I'm having mine on Sunday.

The request came from someone who had his students on Sunday. I personally don't care either way, both days work for me.

Well, when you finally decide on a date and time, let me know and I'll check my calendar.

Jim,

You may want to cross-post this in the Horns section, where you've posted the event in the past. I nearly missed this thread, myself, since I rarely read the Jazz/Commercial section.

The Chicago Tribune is sending a reporter and photog to this year's hang so if you're in the Witness Protection Program be warned!

Seriously, a reporter is planning to attend to do an article about the Hang. I'm sure he or she will also be interested in Trumpet Herald's role as a resource and communications vehicle for trumpet enthusiasts world-wide so I'd appreciate if a Moderator would contact me so I can put the reporter in touch with you.

Yeah, really. I met the reporter at a party and she got really interested and pitched her editors and they went for it.
