|
|
I haven't seen any recent posts on metronomes. I'm not interested in apps for the iPad, iPhone, or Android devices - strictly stand alone metronomes. The louder, the better. Visual displays would be nice as well.
Any recommendations on metronomes for $50 or less?
What about the metronome function on the Snark tuner?
I have an old Thomas wind up metronome and would be quite happy with it, but it doesn't keep steady, accurate time any more. Maybe it can be adjusted, but I haven't figured out how yet.
Thanks,

You can still find the key wound metronomes like you have, but I doubt you can find a decent one under 50.00. I much prefer them as well .
I use a Seiko battery powered for lesson teaching, it has a circular dial for setting tempos. It's a bit louder than some other battery powered ones I have seen.

Go Dr. Beat or go home!
(Although I will admit to using my smartphone "Simple Metronome" app exclusively these days.) _________________ Yamaha 8310Z trumpet

I have a Korg metronome tuner combo about $25. It works great. I do plug a pair of computer speakers into the headphone jack to make it louder. I have not found a digital metronome that is loud enough with out some help.

I have a Wittner Taktell Piccolo Metronome, about $40 from Amazon. Keeps steady time, not super loud, but loud enough to hear while I'm playing. About 6" tall.
My wife has a Neewer NW-707 Metronome, about $20 from Amazon. Keeps steady time, is really loud, almost to the point of being obnoxious. She likes it though. About 9.5" tall. _________________ Bb Yamaha Xeno 8335IIS

I personally like and recommend the Tama RW 105 or 200. They blow your budget a little but are (or can be) very loud, programmable, DURABLE, and give you all the subdivisions. Sweetwater had the rw105 for a while for around $48 when the new model came out but I see that they're selling higher than that now.
best of luck! _________________ Joe Vandiver |

I have the Yamaha ME-D1 which is a little cubic metronome with a conventional dial. I really like it. It's loud enough, it's not always getting knocked over, and it doesn't have a million bells and whistles that interfere with me getting it to actually go tick tick tick tick. _________________ Richard Sandals

I use the Petersen Bodybeat Sync
https://www.petersontuners.com/products/bodybeatsync/
It's expensive but worth every penny. It's fully programmable with hundreds of possible beat combinations and is pretty loud. But what sets it apart for me is the vibe clip, which you attach to yourself and you feel the beat rather than hear it. I can focus on playing and my sound rather than trying to hear the metronome over my playing, which was an issue. It also enhances your ability to feel the rhythms themselves. |

I like the Korg TM-50 combination tuner/metronome for its accuracy and ease of use and features and price. _________________ King Super 20 Trumpet; Sov 921 Cornet

I prefer my old electric Franz LM-4. You can get them on eBay for 15 to 20 bucks. |

Dr Beat Not crazy about the interface not as simple as a dial.
Korg TM-50 Not bad, but not simple enough to suit me.
Matrix MR600 Deluxe Metronome Nice, but at $40, I can get a similar design for half the money.
Wittner Taktell Piccolo Metronome I had one of these once. It wasn't bad, but my last wind up metronome had accuracy issues. This goes for about $40, I can get a digital one for about half that. I would like to try a digital one this time.
Neewerฎ NW-707 Traditional Wind At about $20, this is a finalist - wind up, no batteries, loud, looks really good. However, I have decided to try digital this time.
Tama RW 105 or 200 Don't care for the interface (buttons) or price.
Yamaha ME-D1 This is more like it, but the Seiko is cheaper.
Bodybeat Sync Love the concept, but not the price.
Wittner 2882 Taktell Superm Mini - Very nice, but I think that I'd like to try a digital one this go round.
Franz LM-4 I really liked this one except for the fact that you have to plug it in. I practice outside on the deck quite a bit and the plug thing wouldn't work as well as a wind up or battery operated device. However, they are cheap on Ebay.
Seiko SQ50-V Quartz Metronome Loud, simple, LED flasher and only $20.51. We have a winner.
Thanks all. You've been a big help.
Warm regards,

I have one of these - the metronome I used as a kid! They are loud as heck and just classic. Not exactly portable, but wonderful for the home studio. _________________ Yamaha 8310Z trumpet

I've have a Yamaha Clickstation (now discontinued) for quite a while and to me this is an awesome metronome. I used it a lot to provide a click-track in my in-ears rig that I used as a drummer.
All in all, metronomes are more similar than different, and it depends on what features you want vs how much you want to spend. My advice to you is to do some reading, and then find some YouTube videos of the various ones you think you want to try to see if they work like you'd want them to. _________________ Patrick Gleason

My all-time favorite bass player. We saw him perform with Bela Fleck and the Flecktones several years ago. Awesome.
I hadn't seen this video with metronome tips. It's very good; thanks for sharing. _________________ Bb Yamaha Xeno 8335IIS
