So, the Oscar's were a train wreck of goofs. Wrong awards being presented. Pandering award wins following last year's outrage. And an evening of political hit jobs. Just more examples of the terrible divide in the US.

All that aside, the Orchestra sounded fantastic as always. Here's a neat vid about the conductor Harold Wheeler, and his responsibilities and a few shots of the orchestra.

Who was in the trumpet section? Anybody know? I think I saw Fred Irby and Wayne Bergeron, but I could be mistaken.

The band was the highlight for me, as I think these awards, and almost all award shows have lost almost all class and respect.

Fred is a classy player. He flies below the radar. I mean he's done movie scores, all the shows, tv stuff. Runs a great department at Howard, but you just don't hear his name enough mentioned amongst the great trumpeters of our time.

Anyway, thanks for the clarification and the orchestra sounded great as always.

The band was awesome, for sure. Congratulations to Asghar Farhadi for his Oscar win for the film The Salesman.

I haven't seen the film, but it's on my list. The boycott of the award show was ridiculously ironic but I'll still watch the movie.

After Warren Leuning passed away, Rick got Fred on the Dancing with the Stars band. I don't think he was a weekly regular, but he was there quite often.

After seeing a post on Rick Baptist's face book page where he was praised for finally getting all of the orchestra members listed in the end credits crawl, I pulled the show up on Hulu & went to those credits.

It was a much smaller orchestra than before. It's always been 4 trumpets, and for the last bunch of years, usually a guest trumpet soloist was brought in to play during commercial breaks, including Arturo Sandoval & Chuck Findley.

This year - only 3 trumpets.

Dontae Winslow was the trumpet in the opening song done by Justin Timberlake.

Here is the list and with a few of the instruments they played.

Michael Beardon
Wayne Bergeron - trumpet
Charlie Bisharat - violin
Chris Bleth - reeds
Laura Brenes
Vanessa Brown
Mark Cargill
Gene Cipriano - reeds and his 56th time in the Oscars Orchestra.
Jeff Driskill - reeds
Karen Elaine
Vanessa Freebairn-Smith
Julie Gigante
Craig Gosnell
Chris Gray -trumpet
Dan Greco
Dylan Hart
Trey Henry - bass
Ralph Humphrey
Fred Irby - trumpet
Katie Kirkpatrick
Songa Lee
Natalie Leggett
Tim Loo - cello
Sal Lozano - reeds
Andy Martin - trombone
Darrin McCann
Serena McKinney
Joe Meyer
Alyssa Park - violin
Dean Parks
Sara Parkins
Greg Poree
Lynne Richburg
David Shostac - reeds
Cecelia Tsan
Mike Valerio
Shalini Vijayan
Don Williams
Reggie Young

Discussing the causes of the "terrible divide" would make those posts wind up in Reveille or just the Wayback Machine.
