The other night our 11-piece swing band played a freebie for a group of churches raising money to build a home for a needy family.

Tickets were $20 and we were the only entertainment. The event raised over $6,000!

Much as I support the idea of helping the needy I couldn't help wonder if our band should starting holding events to benefit we needy musicians.

Anyone on TH doing this? Renting a hall, advertising "Swing Night" or whatever and selling tickets? If so, what's been your experience?

Meh...people won't even pay $5. cover charge at the door for live music at a bar or club. I don't have much hope for a fund raising live event.

BUT

I also am amazed at the support of "Go-fund-me" style internet campaigns and their success. Those are just online versions of panhandling, but they prove to be successful.

They have cool give-aways for tickets to a show, or CD, or even just a name mention somewhere. And they seem to be a success in many instances.
