|
|
I have an Eterna Severinsen with a S/N in the 10xxx range which according to the Horn U Copia Getzen s/n list puts it somewhere in the '68 - '71 range, I'm guessing around '70. As I understand it they came with both a .458 and .460 tuning slide, anyone know where the measurement is made to tell? I've seen where they were supposedly stamped with the size on the slide but I find no such stamp on mine. _________________ Getzen Eterna Severinsen

Mine is stamped with 458 on the bottom side of the bottom tube, near the water key. The tube wall of the .458 slide is slightly thicker than that of the .460.
My slide is older than my trumpet and has a water key rather than Amado.

The .458" tuning slide is stamped but the .460" is not stamped (at least on mine). You would make the measurement inside either the top or bottom tubes on the slide. _________________ Mark LaSavio

Put the shank of a mouthpiece in the tuning slide and note how far it goes in. Then put the same mouthpiece in the third valve slide and compare the depth of insertion. The results will provide your answer.

The 3rd valve slide is supposed to be what dimension? And was it the same on all years? _________________ Getzen Eterna Severinsen

You can do the same thing buy comparing the tuning slides. Gently insert the mouthpiece into the end of the larger slide and mark it. When you insert the mouthpiece into the .458 slide it shouldn't go in as far. Personally, since you found no markings I think you have two .460 slides.

Robert-
I believe that like any other trumpet, the bore of third valve slide on the Getzen is the same as the horn's overall bore. In this case, .460. I suggested the third valve slide because it is long enough for a mouthpiece shank to be inserted. I am not aware of any changes to the ML Eterna's bore size over the years.

Kent-
I was assuming Robert only had one tuning slide with his horn. If he has two, then your post is obviously correct.

Only have one, which is unmarked.
I have digital caliper but don't know if it's accurate enough to be useful. _________________ Getzen Eterna Severinsen

I have owned several Getzen Severinsens over the years that included both tuning slides. The .458 slides were always marked as such.
I bought a Severinsen brand new in the early '70s that came with only the unmarked, .460 slide.
