Other than waiting on a trumpet for parts to show up online. Does anyone know if other Conn trumpets have the same pistons as the Conn 77 B trumpet. Has a small screw that goes into the piston and the plastic valve guide.
Where would I buy replacement piston valves or a valve case for this trumpet? _________________ King 603 cornet

Bought a Conn Connquest 77 B parts trumpet for the pistons. Used the pistons on the newly purchased horn for this horn.
Works well but the pitch is to high. Is it a valve oil issue?
Thanks for your input. _________________ King 603 cornet

You probably need a thicker valve oil, you see, it will make the notes "stick" just a bit and that slows them down and makes them lower. _________________ Yamaha 8335LA with Blessing 3C, 5C, Schilke 11A4A |

I am using hetman 2 valve oil. Should I use hetman 3 valve oil? What other valve oils would you recommended? _________________ King 603 cornet

These valves were unique to that generation of Connquest. There are no other horns that can be scavenged.

In case anyone is wondering, my Connquest cornet had issues with the valve guides and we found out that they are no longer available from the parts supplier. My tech worked out a way to fix them through magic and they are so far working. My valves were rotating out of position during play before and that hasn't been happening. _________________ Richard

Those are pistons I have. Bought another 1957 Conn 77 B trumpet l with intact pistons.
Waiting on a call back from the tech. Looking forward to playing this trumpet. _________________ King 603 cornet

(Looking at my Hetmans) No, no. 1 would be lightest, then no. 2 then no. 3. You'd want no. 1.
That being said, in my opinion Getzen valve oil, the pale blue stuff, is great and you can get it lots of places. _________________ Yamaha 8335LA with Blessing 3C, 5C, Schilke 11A4A |

Where "magic" might just mean taking a piece of Delrin or brass etc and making new ones. _________________ Yamaha 8335LA with Blessing 3C, 5C, Schilke 11A4A |

Gave the trumpet another bath and throughly cleaned out the holes in the pistons.
The trumpet sounds great. Now to find an instructor. _________________ King 603 cornet

It may have been the valve guides themselves - but I had a similar issue with one valve.
Turns out the "slot" in the casing had not been cut deeply and cleanly enough. After about 15 minutes of work with tiny files and screwdrivers I resolved the problem.(Unless you have done work like this in the past - best to give it to your repair tech.)
To ID the problem, I had to take the valve apart and mount the round plastic valve guide on a long bolt so I could observe the fit from both the top and bottom in the casing. |

Thanks. The tech took the valve guides and stretched them a bit and refit them into the slots of the valves increasing their surety in the slots. I have not had a rotation problem since. _________________ Richard

I am selling my Conn 77 B trumpet online. Had a second opinion from a local music tech that the 2nd and 3rd valve casing was un-repairable. Best looking trumpet I have ever owed.Just unplayable.
Would like some advice on marketing this trumpet: http://www.ebay.com/itm/132287845343?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1555.l2649 _________________ King 603 cornet

You should probably list it as a parts horn. Otherwise, someone may buy it expecting to be able to play it (not reading the description) and then want their money back. Also, more different pics of the instrument and less pics of the ripped-up case. _________________ "Brass bands are all very well in their place - outdoors and several miles away ." - Sir Thomas Beecham |

Bell side of the horn, inside the bell flare, and maybe a few 1/2 shots if you can get close enough for them to be in focus. Brighter light will help your camera focus better, too. _________________ "Brass bands are all very well in their place - outdoors and several miles away ." - Sir Thomas Beecham |

Thanks again Dale. I added new photos and changed the description. Made it obvious the trumpet was unplayable and its issues. _________________ King 603 cornet

Since there were no bids on the Conn 77 B trumpet. I decided to sell the trumpet body, valves, slides separately.
Did sell the trumpet body and valves.
Did find out that the 3rd slide of the 1957 Conn 77 B trumpet doesn't fit right in the 1970 Conn 77 B trumpet. So I will be bringing the trumpet to the repair shop to pull the slide.
What would be a good price to sell the four slides? Does it make more economic sense to sell together or separately?
Thanks for your input. _________________ King 603 cornet
