I have a Bach LT72 (lightweight bell and body). The leadpipe has no markings on it, and is the original stock leadpipe. Would this be a 25 or 25-O? I know the 25-O is "standard," but I'm not sure whether it's usually labeled as a 25-O.

Thanks for any insight!

I'm pretty sure that'll depend on the era. What's the serial on your horn?

Unless I'm incorrect, Bach used to use a 43 pipe on their 72lt's and recently switched to 25-o pipes.

Can anyone back this up?

According to the 1990 catalog that I have:

Bach LT180ML: 72*/25 (standard leadpipe)
Bach 180XL: 43/25-0 (standard leadpipe)
All the M.M*, ML, ML*, 25L and the 25*L had the 25 leadpipe as standard according to the catalog.

I personally have a 43*/43.
I have had a 72*/43, a 72L/25, 43/43. In the past you could order a Bach Stradivarius in any configuration that you wanted, and they were much easier to get. The most common leadpipe option that I have run across has been the 43 leadpipe. The 25-0 not so much.

I believe that the popular 72* leadpipe option in the past was the 43. I think this setup was the one that Bernie Glow, the great NYC trumpet player, used. Someone correct me if I'm wrong about this.

So according to this info you have the 25 leadpipe. I have not seen a Bach trumpet after the Mt. Vernon years that did not have the leadpipe marked if it was not the standard leadpipe. This doesn't mean there aren't any, but it is probably the exception to the rule.

The leadpipe options listed in the catalog for Bb trumpets are: 25 (standard), 25-0 (standard XL), 6,7,43,44,25LR and 43LR.

According to WWBW the new 72* has the 25-0 as standard, so it really depends on what year the horn was made.

I hope this answers your question!

Thanks for the help! My horn is from 1984, so it seems like it's likely a standard 25 pipe. I didn't realize the "standard" set up had changed over the years. Very cool info!
